Hi Ken:
I found something interesting today. While measuring leakage current with a
digital multimeter, I noticed a high amount of leakage. The unit
incorporates a switching power supply, with some EMI/EMC circuitry. Anyhow,
I read somewhere that DMMs are some times inaccurate
You need to add a network in series with any meter that isn't specifically a
leakage current meter. This human body network model is typically a 1500
ohm resistor in parallel with a 0.15uF cap. Obviously without it you get a
very much higher reading than with it.
If you did have that
Jim,
Yes, I'm sure that there was a collective groan when you mentioned EN

see that someone else is still questioning what's going on with this
standard.
I think that your understanding of Basic Standards, Product

Hello Gary,
Basically it is the company that decides which equipment is rated
as being professional or not. Be ready however to justify.
Part of it is in your question already.
Other standards actually are more precise about the definition of

If you want a TTF file type, we have designed such a font.
It also contains the E-mark and its associated digits
as well as the RTTE directive warning symbol/
Using this font you can create any size of ce-mark in
word and ANY other windows graphics
I have attached a GIF file containing the CE Mark. I hope this is useful for
those looking for it.

There is a varity of formats available, but as Richard has suggested, make
sure they are scaled properly.

Beware. This question has been asked before, but when I checked the designs
at the links provided, I found that the graphics were not compliant. Usually
the C and E were not correctly spaced. If you have a graphics program, you
can probably revise a downloaded graphic to be compliant.

No problem Doug. Glad I could help. This group is a great asset to all of us
and I try to contribute when I can and I certainly hope that others continue
to do so as well. I have learned quite a bit from this group since I started
in compliance almost three years ago. I especially enjoy reading
Does anybody out of there know whether a small biconical antenna is available on
the market?
Small means about 500 mm long.
Purpose: radiated emission measurement in a shielded room.
Thanks for any help.

Question for the group - Does anyone know of a
commercially

Hi Ken.
On the subject of TCF and waiving tests, lets say you were to waive a test
because its non-applicable. For instance, line conducted when the unit is
battery powered. Does this mean that you are required to go the TCF route?
No.
The TCF route to compliance usually means that you
Hi Tin.
I am interested in knowing the basis of your response to items 1 and 2, as
it is contrary to my understanding of the EMC Directive.
I carefully qualified my comments with the words, 'In the UK'. The UK view

I don't know any French but if it is the French implimentation of the
Machinery directive it would not cotain any EN numbers. The
Machinery directive is a New Approach directive and they never
specify particular standards. It specifies routes to compliance that refer
to harmonised standards.
As relates to the EMC Directive, I am trying to straighten out my thoughts
re the different classes of standards. I'll say what I thought was right
and then ask my questions and ask for comments:
What I thought until now:

Hello Tin,
This is a difficult point but I think on strictly legal terms of
the UK implementation of the EMC directive my old friend and
colleague Chris Dupres is right, although I would strongly caution
against trying it unless you are very sure your equipment does not
cause interference.

Thankyou to all those who responded to my probing question. My initial

Given this, my primary concern is with protecting the analyser. Since his
