All, Just last night, I was re-reading the procedures for Verification (e.g. for Class A ITE) and Declaration of Conformity (e.g. for Class B ITE.) For products subject to Certification, refer to 47CFR2.938, Retention of Records. For products subject to Verification, refer to 47CFRF2.955, Retention of Records. For products subject to the Declaration of Conformity procedure, refer to 47CRF2.1075, Retention of Records. (To download, go to: http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/index.html#page1 In the search terms field, type: 47CFR2 AND Retention This will produce all three sections above, Part 2 in its entirety, and 47CRF2 Subpart J--Equipment Authorization Procedures, which defines the three procedures. General Product Safety Directive
Let's take an example of a non-rechargable 9V battery operated ITE product intended soley for business use; and due to its nature, it is highly unlikely to be used by laymen outside that business environment (i.e., not in the home). That product is not subject to the LVD, but it might be subject to the GPSD depending upon scope of the term consumer. The GPSD uses the word consumer without defining the term. What is the legal meaning and scope of that term in the EU? Comments? Re: A very nice game (an example)
From: T.Sato vef00...@nifty.ne.jp # BTW, a good anti-virus solution is to stop using Microsoft Windows # (at least Microsoft's mailers)! :-) I suppress the preview pane for viewing the contents of my mail and use only two panes, one for mail folders and the other for the list of emails in the selected folder. To check emails, I right click on the subject line of the email, select Properties, select Details, then select Message Source. That opens up the entire email in its own separate window to include all header info and the entire message in the body. I can read the message and check addresses without ever opening up the mail. I generally don't open any attachments unless I know the person or have had the attachment checked. There's a very easy way which costs nothing to have some very complete and effective virus checking. Go to any one of the more high profile free email websites to open an account. I find they're very good at checking for virii. Also, that way if you are anywhere which has web access, you can keep up with any of your emails. Re: EMC and Class 2 equipment
This has been my experience with Class II switching power supplies. The absence of the earth connection will make very little difference in the emissions. But, without the earth connection the leakage current requirement is much lower. (For ITE, 3.5mA is allowed for Class I, but only 0.25mA is allowed for Class II equipment ). Therefore to meet the 0.25mA leakage current limit the cap value must be reduced. With the cap value reduced the power supply will no longer meet the conducted emission limits. Then to reduce the conducted emissions, the common mode choke inductance must be increased. I am only a product safety person with very little EMC experience , but it seems be a simple voltage divider issue. With these changes the power supply can meet the conducted emissions and also the leakage current limit. Therefore, the desire for a class II switching power supply must be great enough to justify the increased cost and physical size of the common mode choke. But I have gotten several of them through world wide safety approvals. A final word: I recommend that you NOT try to modify an existing Class I design to meet the Class II leakage current and EMC requirements. Re: DSSS WLAN for Australia
Hi Desmond, Conformity assessment in Australia is via declaration of conformity and supporting compliance folder. There is no approval to be applied for. The compliance folder should include a copy of the Part 15.247 report, among other things. The C-tick is required on this kind of WLAN device, and the Supplier Code Number (SCN) that accompanies the mark on the label is what will link the product to the responsible party in Australia for ACA enforcement. If the manufacturer is not an Australian company that role of responsible party is filled by an agent in Australia. It would be the agent's SCN appearing on the label, and the agent would sign the DoC and maintain the compliance folder. ACA (the regulator) says an agency agreement should be in place to clarify who is responsible for compliance of the equipment in the market. Since there is no submission to be made or certification granted, the time frame on this can be quite short. We would probably turn around and ask how quickly the manufacturer needs to ship the product. Hope this helps. -Fred Borda Compliance International www.typeapproval.com At PM 08:27 04/24/02 -0400, Desmond Fraser wrote: Hello Group: We recently received a certification granted for a 2.4 GHZ portable wireless LAN card. DSSS WLAN for Australia
Hello Group: We recently received a certification granted for a 2.4 GHZ portable wireless LAN card. The device transmits between 2.4GHz and 2.472 GHz with maximum EIRP levels of less than 15mW. This device was FCC approved under 15.247, Specific absorption rate measurements were also performed. Does anyone know the following below for Australia. 1. Can the manufacturer use a DOC with an Australian agent? 2. Is the ctick-mark mandatory for the referenced devices? 3. Should an agency agreement exist between agent and the manufacturer? 4. Who applies for the Ctick mark? The agent or the manufacturer. 5. Are there any fees involved? 6. What is the typical time frames from submitting to actual approval. Thanks in advance Desmond A. Country of Origin/Made in xxx-Revisited
To all, The recent threads on Country of Origin and Made in xxx brought up many questions on this subject. So, I did some research. I appeared to get some answers and also created some more questions. Hopefully, members of the group can confirm or disagree with the items listed below. 1. US International Trade Commission (USITC) Requirements--According to the information I have obtained, there are no requirements for products being exported from the US. The Country of Origin requirements only pertain to products that are imported into the US. Do you agree? How does this requirement work for a US manufacturer that also has products built in another country such as Singapore? Do we need to mark the products manufactured in Singapore with Country of Origin for shipment into the US? 2. North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Requirements--If your product meets the preference criteria A-F as defined by the Agreement, you create a Certificate of Origin to get preferential tariff treatment. The US, Canada and Mexico all have their own Country of Origin marking requirements. Agree?? 3. US Federal Trade Commission Made in USA requirements--In order to label a product Made in USA, the product must be substantially all made in the US. A product will be considered substantially all made in the US if the product was last substantially transformed in the US and US manufacturing cost are at least 75% of total manufacturing costs; OR the product was last substantially transformed in the US and all significant parts were last substantially transformed in the US (substantially transformed refers to a manufacturing process that results in a new and different article of commerce, having a new name, character and use.) Agree?? 4. Countries other than the US Country of Origin Requirements--Does anybody have a list of Country of Origin marking requirements for various countries?? All responses are greatly appreciated. Regards Joe Martin --- This message is from the IEEE EMC Society Product Safety Technical Committee emc-pstc discussion list.
