Steve,
Which Matrox card did you buy? Also are you using this with Windows or Linux? I have been wanting to put together a Linux box to act as a digital video recorder, and would love to hear any

It was the Matrox Marvel g450 etv. [shamefacedly] I'm running in a

I got a Gigabyte GA-7DXR+ mb. It has an ATA-133 drive controller
builtin.
The faster the hard drive the better for recordings. The AMD 1.4 g

Seymour Cray said some funny things. I just found this quote
about virtual memory.
Memory is like an orgasm. It's a lot better if you don't
have to fake it.
He was also opposed to parity bits.
Parity is for farmers.

Steve,
Thanks. So does this pretty much wipe out your system,
or can you still do other things. The system I am hoping to do use is a PII 550
Xeon, 384MB Ram,UltraSCSI LVD with two 9 GB Seagate drives.
The drives are plenty fast enough ( I have gotten transfer rates of 60+ MB/sec).

If you want a new PC-PVR getup on the cheap, look into a cheap athlon
mobo with built-in IDE RAID... use two 7200 RPM drives, striped, and I
believe you'll be happy as a clam. here's a recent deal you might like:

I like my All-In-Wonder 128 Rage Theater. It works in X but I can't get it to use
/dev/video so it won't capture anything. One of these days I'll have time to tackle
it and beat it into submission.
This is running on a dual 933, Asus MB, Promise IDE raid mirroring 7200 RPM IBM HD.

I have the Dorio dumb terminal and was using a null modem cable to connect it

I installled progeny for the second time on another system and I love the

Progeny should be the installer for potato and woody. Anyone try

Garl,
I think I would start seeing dropped frames with multiple
processes.
Most of the bottleneck is probably in the drives, but you'd have to
experiment.
You may need more space though. My mpeg2's were averaging 65mb/min
and avi's were twice that. For tv viewing you may not need that
I have a 9 pin serial to cat5 cable that was used to connect to the
management port of a Cisco DSL router. I could bring to a clinic
(possibly not this week though...I'm not sure...) or we could arrange
something else. Let me know if you're interested. I'm not sure about
