Somewhat of a mini poll here. What I'd like to know is what
commercial software has any of us bought to use on a linux

Wine. I've also installed a couple games

I've been curious lately about using a non-free X server. What
kind of graphics cards have you used it with and how is the
performace compared to XFree86? How would it compare and/or
would it work with binary accelerated drivers offered by
companies like Nvidia and 3Dlabs?
Thanks.
Mr O.

I run Win4Lin on my gentoo system. I'm disappointed with Vmware.

Max,
The weekly clinics that Tasha has referred to are exactly what you
need. They are primarily to help people that are new to *nix learn enough
to get started on their own. People are always welcome to bring their
computers down and get help installing linux on them!! so... come on down
Thanks Jamie. I meant to come in last night, but work constraints proved
too tight. I did install Mandrake on my old tower, and am compiling a few
questions for next week's clinic. I managed to mount my NT partitions on
that machine, and after much ado dealt with a screen resolution problem.
Well... I cant promise someone will be able to solve all your problems
at the clinic, but we will surely try! Its a good idea to write the
ideas down (or type the in a text file atleast...) so that you dont for

You can also edit the sshd_config file on the host in question.

Make sure you have X11Forwarding yes in the remote machine's
sshd_config.

Hey Rob,
Sigh . . . best case, of course, with the command you
ran is that 'it just works.' First, on the server,
check the sshd_config file (somewhere in /etc or
/usr/local/etc, depending on os/distro,etc). Look for
the line:
X11Forwarding no|yes
Assuming this is yes, you should be good to go.
