Somewhat of a mini poll here. What I'd like to know is what commercial software has any of us bought to use on a linux system. Distros not included since they really aren't commercial. Me personally: Unreal Tournament 2003, Descent 3, and Crossover Wine. I've also installed a couple games

I guess the closest I have come to purchasing software for use in linux is some books; english code to teach me the computer's code, roughly speaking (they're reference, actually). Some of these come with bundled CD's of reference material too; but I did manage to snag some great swag at the

I've been curious lately about using a non-free X server. What kind of graphics cards have you used it with and how is the performace compared to XFree86? How would it compare and/or would it work with binary accelerated drivers offered by companies like Nvidia and 3Dlabs? Thanks. Mr O. ---

Thanks Jamie. I meant to come in last night, but work constraints proved too tight. I did install Mandrake on my old tower, and am compiling a few questions for next week's clinic. I managed to mount my NT partitions on that machine, and after much ado dealt with a screen resolution problem.

Hey Rob, Sigh . . . best case, of course, with the command you ran is that 'it just works.' First, on the server, check the sshd_config file (somewhere in /etc or /usr/local/etc, depending on os/distro,etc). Look for the line: X11Forwarding no|yes Assuming this is yes, you should be good to go.
