The KRON article says that the accident victim, Walter Huang, had previously
experienced the Tesla's autopilot steering toward the same
Sumwalt said that Huang was likely playing a video game on his phone when his
car veered into the median barrier. "So first let me say, if you own a car with
partial automation, you do not own a self-driving car. Don't pretend that you
do," Sumwalt said.
Hi Folks,
A fellow engineer in California sent me this, apparently the self driving
feature saw the lane spacing as standard but ran into the concrete lane divider
and killed him.

The updates are a small net positive. They could be a large net positive.
They are also mostly voluntary. TMC does have some threads where owners
have reported forced, remotely pushed, updates from old firmware that
owners wanted to remain on (especially because of the battery cap issue or

I'll add that in AutoPilot, I have experienced braking at an intersection
on a curve where a stopped car is in the left turn lane, I'm in the right
through lane, and depending upon where my steering wheel is pointed (only a
couple of degree variations), my brakes are applied or not. This is one

That is overstating things. Good has come from updates, but there are

Hi Jay,
The Bolt has yellow lights that light up on the outward tips of the side
view mirrors if it detects a vehicle in that particular blind side of the

I find that comment interesting. The 2020 Nissan Altima I drove when
testing out ProPilot had Blind Spot

As a Tesla owner, I don't disagree with your statements in this thread. I
think it would be more appropriate to add the word "Semi- as a prefix to
both AutoPilot and Full Self-Driving and even drop the words: "Full" and
"Auto". Then we would have truth in advertising. Mush was interviewed by

Hi EV folks
After talking with my friend who crashed his Tesla3 about what was noted today
on the EVDL that sometimes on sharp country road turns - the AutoPilot drops
