You will NOT find Curtis VCL available as a download, as it is only available
to OEM and closely guarded. The only way to solve your problem which I 
have done with many others is to re-flash the 1238 with the latest OS 
which removes all VC and allows you to reprogram to your needs. without
any VCL limitations. Contact me if you need additional information.

Watch out for the junkie batteries from a crash test, I have customers who
have brought them to me for disassembly only to find out the battery had
been shorted before the test to avoid a fire, which can easily
happen in a Leaf. The Junkie says tough luck. You cannot work on the battery
in the junkies yard due to insurance restraints. Just thought I would give
you a heads up when buying from a junkie.

Bearing failure is a common problem on HPEVS due to inferior
quality bearings. The encoder is available by ordering from US Digital.
The rear bearing is easy to replace, but I am sure that yours is OK The
from bearing is pressed on. Any good machine shop should be able to
do the work for you. Repalce the front bearing with a good US made
bearing available most anywhere.

[EVDL] Clean Power bites the dust

Clean Power (Mini BMS) has closed its doors and no longer in the retail
business. A recent search has found over 90% of those selling EV parts in
2015 are no longer in business. Those that were bedroom distributors may
still have a web page, but when contacted there was no response. I guess
they all went back to their day jobs. Too bad, it was a interesting ride
while it lasted.

I have found that Li-ion batteries that have been used vary depending on the
car salvaged from.
The LEAF battery has the highest failure rate and shortest life span. When
buying used there is the possibility that they have been abused or shorted.
Afterwards the voltage will rise back to what looks normal but the battery
cell is a goner and will not take a good charge above 3.7vdc per cell. Volt,
BMW Bosch and Ford Focus seem to be the best. Volt is the easiest to work
with, but modules made before 2015 is not recommended.

We used 100's of those controllers on 96vdc Li-ion systems with excellent
results. You will not have any re generation if the voltage goes in excess
of 105vdc. Best to do a factory reset on the controller and re program to
avoid any problems. The factory OS software is available to perform that
function.

We use 16 NEW 48vdc 55ah Volt batteries to power the TORQ replacing the
garbage Voltronix Lipo4 batteries and have excellent range and power. Much
easier connecting 16 batteries than 64. BMS plug
on each battery makes for easy BMS connections. Total weight has been
reduced increasing performance.

Regarding the AC-31 which I have a lot of experience with, the motor already
has a 
front bearing. The information you received from the seller of the motor is
false. Do your
conversion but leave out the flywheel and clutch assembly. If you want to
shift, it can be done
without a clutch as long as you are not using regeneration, else you will
have to feather the
accelerator during the shift. NO CLUTCH NEEDED.

Only if you keep the Leaf modules intact. Most conversions will need
the modules disassembled in order to install modules to specific areas
available.
Wires to the cells for the BMS will have to be cut and spliced for the BMS
connection with HV wires of small gauge running all over the conversion. The 
conversions I have worked on done by others was a nightmare when re
deploying
all the BMS wires and connections. Volt uses single plug for 12 cells. Real
easy and neat.

I have done many conversions using the Focus, as well as Leaf, Volt and Bosch
(13,16,Fiat500e)

My favorite is the Volt since the module is 48vdc and a socket for the BMS.
Focus is good also as it comes in a 16vdc module.
Bosch seems to be the highest quality and comes in 48vdc modules with BMS
plug.
The Leaf is the worst and isn't recommended. Used cells are degraded much
more than
the others I have listed and difficult to install as they need serious
compressing. No BMS
socket, so each of the 2 cells on a module must be wired directly to cell.

I sell and prefer new cells to avoid the degradation you will find in ALL
junk yard batteries.

The total charge of 4.2vdc is not going to reduce the life span of the
batteries unless left at that voltage for a long period of charge. Tesla's
are charged using the super charger to maximum of 4.2vdc, but the
recommendation is to drive it as soon as possible so as to not leave the
voltage at the maximum. Chances are you wont own the car when the batteries
are starting to degrade anyway.

That's what happens when you use LifP04 cells. You never know when a cell
will go south for no reason. I have about 75 customers including my own
conversions using NEW Volt cells and have NEVER had a bad cell in over 5
years. Who else can say that. Cannot vouch for those who buy used batteries
from a junkie yard. I am now using the NEW Bosch batteries for the BMW i3,
i6 and Mercedes, cells by Samsung. Time will tell on those as well. American
car manufacturers for the most part don't use the Chinese "junk".

The main thing to be concerned about when buying used junk batteries, is that
a lot of them could have been from crash tests or factory rejects which have
the batteries shorted by Nissan engineers. As a result of the shorting the
batteries are worthless. I have had many customers send me battery packs
from different junkies to disassemble for them, they lost a lot of money as
a result. The junkie isn't going to refund. Reversal on your credit card
wont work unless you have had it shipped back, then you are on the "no sell"
list that junkies subscribe to. You get what you pay for. I also notice all
of the people on the forums asking about buying the Leaf or Volt batteries
are the same ones who used to post how good the CALBs were. What happened,
did the CALB's die?

Regardless where you buy a Leaf at, take note of the high pitch wine sound
from the motor. VERY aggravating to most people. Also, excessive road noise
due to lack of insulation. My suggestion, is take a look at the Ford Focus
which makes no noise. It only has a 23kwh battery like the 2015 Leaf, but is
more efficient in energy use.

I designed the first Li-ion battery pack to power a car made from 8500
Panasonic and Sanyo 18650 cells to power my 1970 VW in 2004 resulting 35kw
200 mile range. This was done before Tesla developed their roadster. The
batteries were sold to the engineers leaving my VW without. You can watch a

Why not buy a Volt 16.5kwh battery and add your own inverter for a backup.
That's what my customers are doing. That's what Tesla is selling for a whole
lot more. Be careful connecting anything between your solar inverter and the
grid, as it is protecting the grid from power during a power failure. You
don't want to put power into the grid during a failure Also, don't unplug
your solar array from a backup battery charger while it is drawing power,
you will destroy the collectors unless using Micro Inverters.

The video Ben Nelson has posted showing the disassembly of a Leaf battery is
the old battery type. Leaf has made a lot of modifications to the cells and
the metal container. Most importantly, you cannot remove the top metal cover
by simply removing about 40 bolts. The new style has about 8 molts and is
silicone together to prevent liquids from entering. It is a real chore
removing it with a air chisel. Just thought one should know this before
tackling the project.

I would suggest and think it would be advisable to go with the Li-ion if you
plan on keeping your car. Additionally, a longer range is achievable, but
may be more costly than lead acid. For a Li-ion 17kw pack designed for Volt,
your are looking at about $4k. For a 24kw pack designed for the Leaf or
Focus, you are looking at about $5k. With proper care you wont be replacing
any of these in 5 years or less like lead acid. My experience with Chinese
phosphate is not good, failures are unpredictable. Maybe that's why most new
electric cars don't use the Chinese batteries. LG chemical seems to be the
leader in the Li-ion field and provides cells to most EV manufacturers,
except Tesla. Do a comparison of the costs and amortize it over the years
you plan on driving the car. Having the Li-ion aboard when selling is a big
time plus and will achieve a higher selling price. Lots of luck.

Be aware, those cells for sale out of Las Vegas come from sand hurricane and
have been troublesome according to others. You DO NOT want a Leaf pack older
than the ne upgraded cells. One way to tell is that you cannot remove the
top of the pack, it is silicone glued together. You have to use a air chisel
to remove it. Secondly, the cell modules look a lot different as they have
cooling openings all around the cell case. Lastly, the copper cell
connectors are no longer plated. The batteries from Katrina are still out
there and available for all to buy, most go to Las Vegas. Buyer BEWARE.

Thanks for the kind words Audrey. I recommend using a BMS that will start
shunting at 4.1vdc and limit over discharge to 3.0vdc. Some prefer to stop
charging at 4.0, thinking they may last longer, probably not loosing much by
doing that. Enjoy.

In my experience converting a VW or similar car, when using a AC motor, best
advice is to keep the tranny and go clutch less using 3rd gear only.
Shifting can still be accomplished as long as you don't hurry with the shift
and the synchromesh is in good shape. Also, best to put the regeneration on
the brake pedal and not the accelerator during pedal off. This setup works
real good and mimics a production car.

Using a meter to turn off a charger at a pre-programmed voltage can be very
risky. A BMS is designed to perform this function, but turns off the charger
when a single cell reaches the pre-programmed voltage, after permitting all
cells to achieve the same voltage by shunting. It also protects against over
dis-discharge. A single meter cannot perform these tasks in anyway shape or
form. The SOC meter provides all the information concerning usage and is
VERY accurate and programmable. All American electric production cars use
very sophisticated BMS systems to achieve longevity due to a mandatory
8-year 100k mile warranty required in CA. Don't risk a expensive Li-ion
battery pack by relying on a meter to shutoff the charger at a set voltage.
Could be used as a backup if desired. If we learn from the big guns on how
they do it, we will be on the right track and prevent a disaster that too
many can attest to. My 2-cents worth.

Currently have in stock both NEW Leaf and VOLT modules as well as BMS wire
harness for the Volt, and Mini BMS for both Leaf and Volt modules. Volt
modules available in 24vdc, 48vdc and 96vdc. Out of stock on Ford Focus
modules until 10/29/14. Not selling wrecks like others. Scammers don't need
to ask me where I get them as they are wasting their time.

Going the DC route doesn't make sense anymore with a AC motor and controller
for $2500.00. Add to it with a 18kw li-ion battery pack for $4000, and you
have a major beginning of a conversion. The old fork lift and golf cart die
hard's have bit the dust after promoting their state of the art and cost
saving ideas. And all of those that downplayed the J1772 upgrade, have now
sent their projects to the junk yards, but they saved a buck. It is like
everything else, if you cant do it right, don't do it.

Malayan airlines by Putin backed terrorists, I did. How do you change what
the leader of a country does, through the people like we did in WWll. Why do
you think the US is doing what we are doing, to wake up the people. This is
not Politics, in is supporting the American people. Apparently, you think we
should look the other way while company's sell and make money. You say it
should be their personal decision, hog wash. You appear not to support the
US Government or the safety of the American people. This is not politics,
right or left, its the American way, or at least it should be.

[EVDL] HPEVS selling in Russia, tacky.

A internet list is showing that Brian Seymore at HPEVS is selling to dealers
in Russia
 i.e. Phone: (495) 984-96-19  website: www.ecomotors.ru
When we are trying to hurt Russia financially for killing people, HPEVS is
reported to be selling to the Russian dealer. Is this a good or bad thing? I
think it is something to be ashamed of.
