I think this would be helpful to know also. Unfortunately, I don't have
much info as to how it happens in other places...

They ship internationally, but not cheap...we made a purchase/donation
last year and spent a fair bit just on shipping.

If Plone stuff could ship from both the US and Europe, that would help a
lot (having fulfillment happen more locally).

We suspect that Drupal actually got the idea from us! They were just faster
at publishing them on their website, while ours are buried in an openplans
mailing list thread (see below).

Jordan Baker conveniently linked to the elevator pitches thread from the

Yes, I think it was a great idea. Look at all the other cheat sheets we
could make:

A few points:

The "Plone Shop" should be done under the name of the Foundation and
the benefits go to the Foundation.

Agreed. Although to encourage interesting t-shirt designs we might
want to offer some sort of compensation to the best designs that
ultimately end up being sold on the shop.

In the past, I didn't promote the "Cafepress" Plone items because it
was unclear who would benefit from the sales.

Yes, it was not clear and this needs to be remedied.

All this work can be outsourced. It may be interesting to
investigate what other Foundations or Communities are doing. For
example, Ubuntu has an efficient system:

https://shop.canonical.com/
In the past Ubuntu was using Cafe Express. There may be alternatives.

I think Gabrielle might be a good person to investigate the options
because she has already successfully produced a lot of high quality
swag.

Do they ship at low expenses in Europe, US and World?

That would definitely be one of the criteria in choosing a partner.

I would like to know more about this, and evaluate the costs/
requirements to include some PloneGov products in the store.

Yes, good idea to have PloneGov swag as well.

[Evangelism] Plone swag

2008-10-14 Thread Nate Aune
If you were at the Plone conference last week you probably noticed the
awesome swag that Sixfeetup was giving away:
- Plone bumper stickers
- Plone logo stickers
- Buildout Quick Reference Cards
- Plone bottle openers
Buy them at http://sixfeetup.com/swag and Sixfeetup will donate 50% to
the Plone Foundation.

I think we should set up a shop.plone.org site where people could buy
Plone t-shirts and other stuff to show their support for Plone. I know
Gabrielle (from Sixfeetup) is also keen to do this. Jonah Bossewitch
(cc'ed) set up a Cafepress store a couple years ago
(http://www.cafepress.com/plonestore) but these products are using the
old logo and there's been some question as to the quality of the
merchandise sold on Cafepress.

Look at what other open source CMSes are doing:
http://shop.joomla.org/
http://drupal.org/node/15101

Chris - could we set up a PloneGetPaid shop at shop.plone.org to sell
this stuff? All proceeds could go to the Plone foundation which could
then be used to spend on marketing efforts.

Let me know who else is interested in this idea. And add your name to
this wiki page:
http://www.openplans.org/projects/plone-marketing/plone-swag
