RE: Opinions on the best message format.
Plain text is the most basic and standard format that *ANY* email client can read. Any other platform (Linux, sun, Atari (j/k), etc.) would not be able to read RTF format and some wont be able to read HTML format. Have you or your lawyers saw some email messages that had some junk HTML code within a message so bad that you can't read the message itself. And there's waayyy to many people have different preference on how to decorate their email message with HTML to a point it can be quite annoying for those who receive it. Re: Opinions on the best message format.
An HTML message will take up more space than the same content in plain text message. Also, not every mail client will display the contents correctly (my linux mail client shows the HTML code). RE: Opinions on the best message format.
Each had its own purpose, time and place. Most people that I know, use them all. It is common for Exchange Server users with the heavy Outlook client to set their default to RTF and use the others on an as needed basis. You do understand that under the hood, this is a silly question. Body part 3 or RFC defined message text is plain text by definition, and anything else almost always gets packaged as one of the following: MME, body part 14, or body part 15. Systems like Exchange/Outlook disguise that and make RTF look like regular message text. Except for this misleading display thing that is going on, it is really an apples and oranges comparison. -Original Message- From: Darrin J. RE: Opinions on the best message format.
Can anyone think of arguments against using html or RTF? 1) Not every reader in the world can read html or RTF, but to be fair that's less and less of a concern. 2) For the same reason the lawyers use plain text on court documents. RTF and HTML allow you to get too cought up in colors and fonts making the text harder, not easier, to read. -Walden Walden H Leverich III President Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 (208) 692-3308 eFax [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
