No, it had been delivered by the linux mail server. She was just moving these old eMails to her new Exchange Mail Box. At the time she was moving the mails from the .pst to the Mail Box, her new mails were being delievered to her Mail Box Inbox on the Exchange Server. I ran ScanPST over 7 times now, and still there is no error. On Thu, 04 Oct 2001, you wrote: And the internet mail was delivered to the PST by your Exchange server? RE: Losing data after moving to Exchange server
The receive limit should always be set, high enough to not get in the way of business function, but low enough to save a server from a crash in case of a mail loop or malicious attack. This is advice from Microsoft. And I think it makes a lot of sense. It would have prevented a hard 3 day outage for one of our sister agencies a couple of years ago. Joel K. Allison, Fortunately, you haven't confused me, but I I think I may have confused you. Let me try again. Let's assume you have deleted item retention set for 30 days. Let's assume you have your mail clients configured to deliver New Mail to a PST file. Let's assume you have read and applied the Dumpster AlwaysON Reg Hack Q article. Having made those assumptions: You can open that user's mailbox on the server and recover anything that was once in the inbox on the Mail server for last 30 days. Still with me, or did I lose you again? If you want, we can take this off list. Ed, The mailbox size limit on the Server is 300MB. Her .pst was opened temporarily to retreive her eMails, Calendar appoinments, etc for permanent storage in her Exchange Mailbox. During the moving of a large folder to the Server, she exceeded the size limit of her new mailbox. RE: Losing data after moving to Exchange server
ScanPST did not find any errors. But, it found 19 folders and 2697 Objects. Does this sound right for a PST that is about 370MB? She has a Contact list with 800 contacts, and some Calendars that are not so large. Could it be the missing data is somehow 'hidden' in the .pst? I have opened the file, but I do not see a Lost Found folder. I tried to count the items, and I can account for about 2/3's of the 2697 items. Her deleted items were ALL of her emails. RE: Losing data after moving to Exchange server
Allison, You may have to concede on this one. Unless one of the grey beards has an idea, I don't see how you're going to recover that missing data. Excerpt form Q171371: On the View menu, click Folder List to turn on the Folder List view. In your Folder List, the following recovered folders should be displayed: - Recovered personal folders - Calendar - Contacts - Deleted Items - Inbox - Journal - Notes - Outbox - Sent Items - Tasks These folders are usually empty because the folders are part of a rebuilt .pst file. A Lost and Found folder should also be displayed. This folder contains the folders and items that the Inbox Repair Tool recovered. Any items that are missing are beyond repair. The folders were not shared. The .pst was on the user's harddrive. No backups of it exist. The last folder she moved was very large, and during this move she exceeded the mailbox size limit. The move was unsuccessful, but now the data is neither in the old .pst nor the Exchange mailbox Folder she was trying to move it to. In her deleted Objects Folder there is the Folder she tried to move, but it is empty, and none of the Sub-folders are there. Is there any way to recover this data? Where is the data? Restore the PST from the last backup. -Original Message- From: Allison Wittstock [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2001 7:29 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Losing data after moving to Exchange server I have opened the file, but I do not see a Lost Found folder. I tried to count the items, and I can account for about 2/3's of the 2697 items. Her deleted items were ALL of her emails. Is there anything else I can do to this .pst to recover the lost items? They have to be somewhere, no? Yes, I have seen your quote, but the fact is, I'm the Administrator and I am expected to solve any technical problem for my users. On the other hand I've seen users with about a few hundred items and be well over 400MB. You will have to open up the file and look. Also, look for a Lost Found folder in the Scanned PST. But, it found 19 folders and 2697 Objects. Does this sound right for a PST that is about 370MB? She has a Contact list with 800 contacts, and some Calendars that are not so large. Re: Losing data after moving to Exchange server
I think you are confused. The mailbox size limit does not apply to a PST. There is a 2GB limit on PSTs, though. Did your user blow up the PST by exceeding that?
