RE: Mailboxes created on exchange 2000 servers

2002-12-15 Thread Edgington, Jeff
Don't know how via MOM, but you can do it via LDAP (with your favorite
scripting language.. perl, adsi).. or you can find this via
ADUC..Find-Advanced-Field-User-Exchange Home Server-Ends
With-server_name

Does anybody know how I can query MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) to
find out how many mailboxes are on a perticular Exchange 2000 server. I
know this is not strictly an Exchange issue be hopfully somebody will
have
already done this.

Thanks

RE: Mailboxes created on exchange 2000 servers

2002-12-15 Thread Jeff Beckham
Don't know how to do it with mom, but you can right click on the domain
in ADUC and pick find. Next, choose to find choose exchange recipients.
Then pick Users with exchange mailboxes. On the storage tab pick the
mailbox store. Then click find. It will give you a total number of
objects found at the bottom.

Hi,

1. half of my users don't seem to keep their mails on the server but on
their C-drives, while the settings are exactly the same as the other lot.
Can they change this in outlook?

2. I cannot access any mailboxes on the server (not even my own), it says
access is denied, even though I log on as admin. The only mailbox I can
access is Administrator.

Mailboxes do not replicate. User objects do. A mailbox-enabled user
object points to the corresponding mailbox on the Exchange server.

Post the entire NDR, please.

Restore from your last good backup to your restore server.
Spit them out to a pst and import the PST to two newly created mailboxes on

You're looking at a restore my friend. I assume you don't have a DR
environment [1]. So, get a PC with enough disk space to hold your IS. Get
another PC and build it as BDC to your domain. Unplug it from your network
and promote it to PDC. Build the second PC with large disk space as your
Exchange box and do the restore there. After you restore, you can export
the data to PST files.

Get your StICk as soon as you can. Use it on your security [2] team.

Actually you do not have to the BDC/PDC thing. Just add the recovery
workstation to the existing network and go from there.
Restore only the info store, not the directory and run the DS/IS consistency
adjuster choosing All inconsistencies and the checkbox that will create
new directory entries for all of the mailboxes.

Yeah, you could do that. I just thought it would be nice not to have an
exchange server in the production site. Remember, you will be restoring a
database with all the mailboxes on the server. If you do it in prod
environment, you'll end up having two instances of the same mailbox for each
mailbox that was NOT deleted. You could do it, but you've got to be extra
careful.

RE: Mailboxes deleted....

2002-01-22 Thread Tristan Gayford

The recovery server only needs to have the same org and site name, not
necessarily be within the live site, so it can be on the network. And then
do the DS/IS consistency as Andy said to get the directory populated.

You could do it, but you've got to be extra
careful.

Actually you do not have to the BDC/PDC thing. Just add the recovery
workstation to the existing network and go from there. Restore only the info
store, not the directory and run the DS/IS consistency adjuster choosing
All inconsistencies and the checkbox that will create new directory
entries for all of the mailboxes.

Good morning,

Outlook 98. Exchange 5.5 sp4

Our Security team deleted two mailboxes. Yep. They replied YES to the do
you want to delete this mailbox message. Yep these are active mailboxes (oh
yeah... one was even a Vice President.. how cool is that.)

Is there anyway to get those mailboxes back? We have a good backup tape of
our database. But we are very limited on our space.

Any helpful hints here?

Do they show up in Exchange Admin if you connect to the directory on
different servers? If so, could be replication.

Not sure about the sorting if it's just replication...

(no holiday here in Canada either. Damn yanks with a 4 day weekend... :o)

Sometimes when i create a user mailbox, it doesn't show in the GAL and the
mailbox names dosen't line up alphabeticlly sometimes in Exchange
Administrator. Is it something i am doing wrong?

Thanks
