 Subject: getting data from priv.edb

Sorry if this message is a duplicate; I tried sending it before but I'm
 not
 sure if it went through.

My company uses Exchange 5.5 with less than 100 users. One of the drives
 on
the server went down and the directory (dir.edb) was lost. We have no
backups (yes, I know, shame on us). My question is, can the data (the
users' saved messages) be extracted from priv.edb?

I ran isinteg -pri -dump, and the result contained a section titled Dump
 of
the mailbox table, with entries for each mailbox in our site. For each
mailbox there are about 14 lines of information, followed by a line
 saying:
Error: 1 database retrieve error on current record.
Can anyone tell me what this error means? Should I be seeing individual
mail messages in this dump file?

Is there any other way I can extract my user's messages from this file?
 Thanks for any help.

That was a little quick, but that is what you should do. You are in serious
trouble right now. The best thing you could do is put up the $250 and get
this done right.

2002-01-03 Thread Ben Schorr

Call PSS is definitely step 1, but let me also ask -- any chance your users
are using Offline Folders?

If so, you should have them log into Outlook in Work Offline mode and
immediately export their Offline Folders to .PST files. At the very least
you'll have saved that information.

And call PSS. :)

RE: getting data from priv.edb

2002-01-03 Thread Mike Lagase

First of all, did you check if your databases were consistent? If they
were, then you should not need to run isinteg on them. All you need to
do is install and Exchange server with the same Org, Site, and server
name. Make sure you apply the service pack that you had previously
installed before the drive going south. After that, you can actually
clear out the mdbdata directory, and throw in your priv and pub file.
Try starting the IS and you should get an error stating that you need to
run an isinteg - patch. Go ahead and do that and now you should have a
good store running. Run DS/IS to populate the directory with the users
mailbox names and then run exmerge to get all of their data out.

Hopefully everything goes well.

Mike
