Thanks Greg for the info. I actually checked out my lilo.conf and it does
reflect what you are mentioning in your answer. This part will be added
to new knowledge.
Thanks again

You need to pass hdx=ide-scsi to your kernel at boot. Different procedure for
LILO and Grub, but you should be able to figure it out by looking at either

Hi List,
I have an IDE CD burner - Plextor 8/4/32A - How can I address it
as if it was a SCSI device ?

I do believe you will find an rpm for mt on your cd. Install it and all will
become magically available.

Hi All,
Following on from my problem with a HP Colorado IDE tape drive, I have found the
following message in the 'dmesg' output.

What does "quiet" do?
It it still useful to use
ide0=0x1f0
and
floppy=daring
with Mandrake (both are suppose to force the use of faste

You can put the 'quiet' back in, but don't use a comma, like this:
append=" idebus=66 hdc=ide-scsi devfs=mount failsafe"

The problem was that I added hdc=ide-scsi to an existing append line in
lilo.conf, it already said append=quiet so I just added a comma and then
hdc=ide-scsi. Guess it didn't like that. I added hdc=ide-scsi as the
only append item and it worked fine.

Do a "cat /proc/devices". Do you have a character
I added a cdrw to my system. I added hdc=ide-scsi to lilo.conf, ran
lilo and added the alias scsi_adapter ide-scsi to modules.conf.
Now what. cdrecord-scanbus does not see it so I can burn to it yet.

I've set up my kernel with ide-scsi, so that I can use my ATAPI CD drive for
digital audio extraction with cdrdao, which works fine. However, I cannot play
the audio CDs that I'm extracting from!
I've tried kscd and ascd, but neither work.
My ATAPI drive is /dev/hdd. With emulation, it shows up

Hi,
I don't think so. I'm using a Future Domain Scsi card with a scsi cd
burner. Also, I have configured my cdrom ide as scsi with the ide-scsi
option.
If I run cdrecord -scanbus the result is:
Cdrecord 1.9 (i586-mandrake-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jörg
Schilling
Linux sg driver version:
I was using ide-scsi to use my cd burner under 7.1 just fine.
I added a real scsi (adaptec) card and HD.
Now cdrecord -scanbus just sees the real scsi and not my cd burner.
Can they work together, or do I have to remove the real scsi to use
my cd burner?

Shouldn't need to insmod or modprobe at all.
Most likely,
a) the IDE devices should stop moving once you get rid of the insmod.
b) the SCSI devices all got bumped up one in the chain.

What is happening here is that the scsi emulator for IDE is being
loaded, and possibly it is blowing away your other scsi devices (The scsi
emulator for Parallel Port, and the scsi scanner).
I suspect a rmmod ide-scsi will allow you to use those devices.
Note that with the ide-scsi module
Well I think that the problem is that you have reordered the ID devices, so your
link files are wrong because they point to the wrong devices.
If you do a:
cat /proc/scsi/scsi
you will have the devices that are ok.
But the question is change in the dev directory the link files that you have.

A friend told me to enable my IDE CD-writer by putting append="hdc=ide-scsi" in
lilo.conf (lilo was run afterward) and insmod ide-scsi in rc.local.
That allowed xcdroaster to have access to my CD-writer as scd0, but now I can't
read from my IDE Zip drive or scan with my SCSI scanner. I presume th
