 Agreed. He is very typical corporate male (although my father was nothing like 
him). It is like the corporate world is a replacement for the sports arena 
which is a substitute for the battle field or Roman colosseum. These guys have 
too much aggression and hormones on their hands and it becomes very 
inappropriate and over-the-top in the context in which they now exercise these 
raging energies. While the President must be a leader in some respect, they 
must also be reasonable, balanced and be ready to listen and follow the good 
advice of others. Great leaders are not steamrollers nor are they the ones who 
simply barge ahead doing whatever they want with great bravado and clanging of 
weaponry. Trump is one dimensional and he doesn't quite get it. He might make a 
great football coach, a super cheerleader or even a dynamic Union leader but 
his humanity stinks.

What you don't seem to recognize is, that is what makes him popular. He doesn't 
come off as a wimp but a strong leader, someone who will *fight* for what he 
wants. He is representing the antithesis of what the Republican Party has 
become, a bunch of wimps that roll over and do whatever the Democrats want, 
which is for them to shut up and get out of the way. Case in point is the most 
recent Omnibus bill that just passed in the House. Paul Ryan is in serious 
trouble with his own party. The louder and more *obnoxious* Trump gets, by your 
standards,the more popular he is going to become. Trump is a very polarizing 
figure but he is drawing people to him that Republicans never could. Every time 
he seems to shoot himself in the foot, he gets even more popular. I hate to 
think what it's going to take for him to implode.

Join us on New Year's Eve for contra dancing, life drawing, dancing to world 
music, and swing/Latin/pop/blues dancing, and an evening of socializing at 
Morningstar!  Family dance, 7:00 pm
$15 per family (sliding scale); individuals welcome also! (pay what you can)
Community dancing with fun, easy dances from 7:00 to 8:30 pm for all ages

Trump will implode soon enough. He will not win Iowa because his supporters 
will not show up in sufficient numbers. Many of them say they have not taken 
much interest in politics before, and they are also predominantly drawn from 
the less well educated. Attending an Iowa caucus takes time and commitment, and 
the majority who do it have long taken an active interest in politics and are 
college educated. He will lose badly in Iowa and it will be all downhill after 
that. 

I agree with what he says about Iraq though, in that NBC article. We should 
have left Saddam Hussein in place.

 Well, it isn't going to be his foul mouth, infantile need to be the "winner" 
or his impressive narcissism, at least so far. Some of the American public 
seems to have an inexhaustible tolerance for such things. You say he doesn't 
come across as a "wimp" but my idea of strength and ability to lead does not 
include hate-mongering, belittling of one's opponents, the pathetic need to be 
the big man on campus or an obvious inability to tolerate being bested or 
seeing one for who one really is. Trump is not a wimp, he is way worse than 
that. I'll take wimp any day over any single one of Trump's personality traits.

The new buzzword in the tech industry is "disruptive". When some company 
ref wants to sell their idea to me they say "our technology is going to 
be disruptive in the industry."  Even the climate scientists have 
adopted the term by changing "climate change" to "climate disruption." :-D

And consumers see this with the tech wars that go on between companies.  
It seems if you can't win by making a good product you try to win by 
suing your competitors.  Look at the Apple vs Samsung or vs Google.  And 
when these companies come out with products they are partly unfinished 
and will never get fixed because they want to move on to the "next big 
thing."

Iowa being Iowa, if one shows up at campaign events then you are likely to get 
to see the person of the next leader of the free world.  It is pretty 
incredible to be able to see how people are and think on their feet with people.
 

 Hillary lights up the room, while the room lights up Bernie. Hillary has quite 
a lot of cultivated shakti that she gives like dharsan. Bernie, he is no dim 
bulb either but quite evidently is conveyed a power activated from 'the 
people'. Martin O'Malley is lit in a way a lot like Hillary. They are good 
people. My bet is that Hillary and Martin have been meditators, spiritually.

caucus or the other primaries ? The meditator's candidate? Meditators should 
turn out and favor which party and which candidate?

people associate with his name, although a recent movie

has become pop-culture shorthand for a machine passing the test to prove it’s 
self-aware.  Another recent film, Ex Machina

the Turing Test’s flaws and proposing a clever modification to the rules.
 

 Most people get the basic idea that the Turing Test involves human judges 
interviewing a hidden subject and trying to guess if they’re talking to a human 
being or a very advanced machine simulating human discourse.  In fact, Turing’s 
original proposal

a judge communicate with two hidden human subjects, a man and a woman, with the 
latter encouraged to do everything possible to trick the judge into thinking 
she was a man.  Once his readers understood how this “imitation game” would be

either sex) and a machine, and asking the judge to divine which was the human.
 

 Turing thought computers would advance to the point where they could win the 
imitation game most of the time by the year 2000, and he got that pretty much 
right.  What he couldn’t have predicted was that political correctness would 
strip away so much of human identity, and make communication so awkward, that 
the millennial generation of humans would begin failing his test.  

 

 It is very difficult to tell the difference between a Social Justice Warrior 
and a bot program based solely on their discourse.  It would be a simple matter 
to write a program that searches the Internet for certain keywords and 
generates realistic SJW rants.  

 

 Indeed, online mobs often use tools such as bot programs, fake social media 
accounts, and spam email generators to inflate their numbers and make 
themselves look like a far more formidable presence than the actual number of 
humans involved in the movement would suggest.  Even many of the humans 
involved in these mob actions are essentially behaving as bots — mindlessly 
re-Tweeting rants and hyperlinks, instantly working themselves into a fury 
against people they don’t know, over issues they don’t understand.
 

 The volunteer enforcers of political correctness are looking for the quick 
shot of euphoria that comes from adopting a righteous, powerful identity.  A 
great deal of their discourse amounts to “signalling” each other — taking 
positions on issues they don’t fully comprehend, for the purpose of displaying 
their own virtue.  Politicized science relies on hordes of followers who could 
not pass the most elementary test on the subject at hand, but believe they can 
signal intelligence and virtue by passionately advocating certain positions, 
while intimidating dissenters into silence by accusing them of being 
“anti-science.”
 

 Computer programs can do this sort of thing very easily.  As mentioned above, 
it’s not difficult to program them with keywords to search for and a selection 
of canned responses to pump out.  Frankly, some bots would pass the Turing test 
more easily than young people whose brains have been sandblasted into 
conformity with political correctness.  Human victims of such indoctrination 
often find articulate responses require too much effort, so they sputter out a 
mixture of profanity and childish Internet slang, drop in a link to something 
they approve of, and congratulate themselves for delivering a sick burn.  Bots, 
on the other hand, will never tire of issuing lengthy responses carefully 
written in advance.  

 

 Try to imagine a Turing test involving a campus activist and a computer, which 
the judge kicks off by declaring that Bruce Jenner is still a man.  A savvy 
judge would spot the human by looking for the responses that least resemble 
human speech.
 

 This is not a coincidence, because the Turing Test is all about identity, and 
identity is crucial to human interaction.  

 

 Later theorists built upon Turing’s ideas by noting that identity isn’t the 
same thing as self-awareness, so a computer that does an incredibly good job of 
winning the imitation game hasn’t really demonstrated that it possesses a 
living mind — it’s merely fooled a human judge into granting it human identity, 
by communicating extremely well.  In other words, sophisticated communication 
confers identity.  We make certain assumptions about an unseen correspondent by 
considering what they say,

 I've always been dubious about this "test". I'd assume any likeness to humans 
simply reflected the programmer's ingenuity.
 

 However, and of more interest, it has also been pointed out that if a computer 
had to fool someone into believing it to be human it mustn't be "too clever"!
 

 If I asked you to find the cube root of 283,593,393 and you immediately came 
back with 657 I'd assume you were a computer.
 

 And Turing himself suggested that programs add errors (like the occasional 
spelling mistake) into their output as to err is human.

 

 But the drift of the article - that being a PC drone makes people inarticulate
