[FairfieldLife] Hello from LG...no, not that one, but LaughingGull
I thought I'd pop my webhead into FFL just to say hello to all. I guess I'll get used to the new interface as far as posting is concerned although I don't like it for reading messages or following a particular topic. I'm back from India and had a surprising trip. India never fails to amaze me with new experiences that I accept for what they're worth. I went to my first Mother Meera darshan last week along with several hundred other people in attendance at my session. I've been aware of Her since maybe 2002 or so and have always wanted to attend. It was a very subtle and pleasant experience.

Hello Gull, welcome back. And welcome to yahoo Neo! What were some of the surprises during India trip? [FairfieldLife] Hello FFL -
I think it's fair to introduce myself, well as you can probably see from my handle, I use an anonymous one. Irani tea or chai is a tea from Hyderabad, (I actually didn't know till I looked it up yesterday. But I know it from drinking, hehe.) I do this for several reasons, one is that I want to simply be free to say what I want to say, but personally respecting the choices of close friends and not hurting them. Another one is, that I do not want to be associated with certain topics, as has happened in the past. One third, not less important is, to not be put into a box; like he is pro-TM, he is anti-TM, he is a TBB etc. So, I also believe in reincarnation, not just in the usual sense of the word, but also on Internet forums. So I am not new here, some of you I know for a long time. To break through my policy a bit, I will tell you a bit of what I have done in the past. In one incarnation I created this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiKZjq0vTWg I think most of you have already seen it, it came out of a dialog, we had at the time, centering around something Buck brought up. It was already online before, with 3000 hits, and has now again over 400, you may just look at it again, to give it another boost. At a later incarnation I have discussed various topics with some people, trying to address typical TM-hook-ups, as the nature of transcendence, hazy vs. real, and the roots of TM in traditional japa, and why TM is not in any way more special. I have done so to understand the (con)text that surrounds TM and its own dynamic. In my previous incarnation, I was shocked to notice, how long term TM-ers, who profess to be experts on TM in many ways, are actually lacking any basic sense of discrimination. Something that usually comes only by having actual *life* experiences with people, which is something people have got who paid their dues in the movement, or any other spiritual surrounding for a longer time. Not having experienced oneself directly the dangers that come with extended meditations, like virtually going crazy, you would have known, if you had any experience in real life in similar situations, when for example friends are involved. There would be signs, red flags, one notices in people, and any person with a realistic, down to earth sense would know. This is actually the lack, when only discussing in Internet forums, and drawing most information from there, than from actual places and people, or simply watching teachers just giving a 3 days checking, without sitting through the various problems that may actually come up at these. So, in a way, I feel like a fresh white paper, no need of having to continue any old quibbles. OTOH, I am not afraid either, not of anybody here, I think I have a clear stand.

Hello Tea and welcome back. Ok, to call you Tea? I'm very new to this forum so haven't quite grokked all the players, their roles, beliefs, etc. I was actually warned about this group so my first reply was to a surf report (-: From: iranitea no_re...@yahoogroups.com To: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, June 9, 2012 5:45 AM Subject: [FairfieldLife] Hello FFL - I think it's fair to introduce myself, well as you can probably see from my handle, I use an anonymous one. [FairfieldLife] Hello again
I had unsubscribed for a week or so, after much confusion, mis-attributions, snipping and editing context away of posts of mine, so I found it a bit hard to untangle all this, not having the time, some people here seem to have. Amongst other things, I thought it was time for me to come out of the shadow, I was accused that I couldn't say things straight in their face, and also inspired by those videos of Ravi, which I really like, as it gives a face to him, and makes me overlook some of the things he says. So, here it is, my video, done this morning, just with an improvised talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aHLZDqqQaE And I wish you all a happy new year, with a lot of kiss, kiss ;x an 3 3

Those of us who deal with AI know that human beings aren't computers but instead learning machines. We learn patterns. I have strongly argued that meditation makes the nervous system adapt to pure consciousness. The nervous system does what it needs to do or rewire itself to maintain that state all the time in activity. Once experienced it is difficult to lose and the experience builds. A temporary loss may be due to some illness or brain damage but then I think the individual would have some sense of that experience. Some people think that enlightenment is more magical like living in a world with psychedelic lights and snapping your fingers makes things happen but realistically it's the experience of the stillness of pure consciousness when in activity (and obviously there in meditation).
[FairfieldLife] Hello
I am a 30 yr old hetero virgin male. I have had several health issues since childhood and chronic conditions since 16, so this has made me pretty shy with the ladies. I cut out red meat at 19 and all animal foods at 20. Also pharmaceuticals and junk/processed foods.I took some philosophy courses at 19 and was introduced to different worldviews and lifestyles. I believe in karma/reincarnation and non-violence. I have been doing juice therapy and periodic fasting since 22, but still have long ways to heal. I have pretty much been a shut-in since then and get pretty lonely at times. My family and friends haven't been too supportive and in fact have ridiculed and discouraged me from my new lifestyle. I am looking for friends/penpals and maybe meetup someday.

[FairfieldLife] Hello from the UK
I came across your group by chance the other day, and have been trying to catch up with your insane banter ever since. How you treated that poor lady who thanked you for letting her join was quite scandalous, but I guess one must expect a tough initiation from a group like yours. Someone was recently suggesting that transcending occurs through boredom. This is, of course, true - one is bored of more gross experience, and heads to something more subtle. More refined experience is always more attractive because it is more perfect, has fewer blemishes. But our dear Maharishi was always positive, so he saw transcending as a path to increasing bliss (aanandaad dheva...), and not a retreat from boredom. Relativity is always dual, we can always view something from two sides. It is our choice whether we focus on positive or negative. The TMO never expresses negativity because Maharishi said we shouldn't focus on it (Maa vid dvishaavahai) - It is just a waste of energy. By the way, I don't have a badge - I hope that will be OK Jai Guru Dev David

Re: [FairfieldLife] Hello Jai Guru Dev
Royal Flush by Annie Jacobsen When the Maharaja of Jodhpur was forced to earn a living, he turned his castle into a hotel and opened his fortress to the world. When his father died in a plane crash in 1952, four-year-old Maharaja Gaj Singh II inherited more than most toddlers do. There were those five palaces, the four medieval fortresses, and orchards. Not to mention the thousands of rooms filled with priceless antiques, carpets, jewelry, and artifacts. The 38th member of his family to consecutively rule Jodhpur, an area in western India roughly the size of England, the new maharaja inherited what his ancestors had been building and collecting for more than 500 years. For the next two decades, the maharaja and his family lived in fairy tale opulence, and at the time, his family was far from alone. Dozens of Indian maharajas held sway over vast territories. On passports, their occupation was listed as “Ruler.” They ate off gold plates and used diamonds as paperweights, decorated their wives with emeralds the size of eggs, lived in marble palaces, kept armies of elephants and staffs of thousands. They lent their own government money and subsidized the war chests of the Western world. Visiting European royals and U.S. presidents dropped their jaws and stared at English nannies rocking cradles made of gold. Then, in 1971, with the stroke of a pen, India’s socialist leader, Indira Gandhi, abolished all monarchies. With the 1971 Deregulation Act, the maharajas didn’t just lose their titles, they lost their privy purses — the annual allowance they received beginning in 1947, in return for handing over sovereignty to India. But what really crippled the royal families were the property taxes levied on their previously tax-exempt assets. Suddenly, they faced multimillion-dollar bills. Some auctioned off their historical collections and watched their palaces be dismembered and sold. A few fell into alcoholic despair. Others rode off into the sunset. http://www.americanwaymag.com/maharaja-gaj-singh-ii-rao-raja-mahendra-singh-mehrangarh-fort-india --- On Sun, 5/24/09, Vaj vajradh...@earthlink.net wrote: Subject: Re: [FairfieldLife] Hello Jai Guru Dev Date: Sunday, May 24, 2009, 2:55 PM Ask him who runs the principle of Vedic supremacism there and how they are working to incorporate untouchables into MMY's world plan. Just wanted to send you a hello from here. I am now since about one week in Madanapalle, with a small group of people. We have a nice time, its not too hot, as Madanapalle is higher, I just bought a cycle. We were also one day in Tiruvannamalai, and stayed in one of the oldest Ashrams there.

I know you've traveled much to India over the years. Do you see much change to the country over the last ten years, especially with the economy? I know they are having a tech boom but like the US that doesn't get everywhere. But I did read an article in the local Indian magazine by some Indians who returned and thought they were going waltz right in an pick up a nice house in a great neighbor cheap and live like kings. But they found that was no longer possible.

[FairfieldLife] Hello new morning
My apologies for writing you here like this I had hoped you had a private email address but I didn't see one in your profile. Forgive me if I am totally off base here. You sound young and enthusiastic and you clearly have a dynamite analytical mind. If you are in fact young and attending the university,,,please please please don't put any stock into what I am saying here and go getting yourself in trouble with professor at the school. Questioning their research is like questioning their authority. If the studies are flawed they may take exception to a student questioning them. You could find yourself in their bad books and school is tough enough without having people throwing up road blocks. New morning. I am just a guy pissed off because his girl friend dumped him over her worshipping of Maharishi and I'm doing a little thereputic venting. Please don't jump on anything I point out here and land yourself in trouble at school. You sound like you have a very bright future. I'm a big boy and nothing I say here about the university or Maharishi can hurt me. Yours Sincerely Bill To subscribe, send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Or go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/ and click 'Join This Group!' Yahoo! [FairfieldLife] Hello Fairfield
Hi folks, I have just joined and looking to learn more about the whole Maharishi thing from the folks who actually live in Fairfield. I just broke up with a woman who has been a hard core meditator for 25 yrs. I think she's been totally brain washed by this movement and the Maharishi. I calmly said to her the other day I thought he (Maharishi) was a liar a cheat and a fruad. I thought she was going to kill me. I have never witnessed such anger rage or hatred in my life. Care to enumerate some of the symptoms of her brainwashing? I calmly said to her the other day I thought he (Maharishi) was a liar a cheat and a fruad. I thought she was going to kill me. I have never witnessed such anger rage or hatred in my life. Are you sure thats the only reason she was angry? In my opinion, if you want to know the truth of the matter, or move in that general direction, you have to strive for a nuanced perspective. If you say hes a liar a cheat and a fraud or hes the greatest saint who ever walked the earth youre pitching your tent on an extreme end of the spectrum. As Ive said here often (but you wouldnt know that because you just joined) the natural world, including people, is a complex mix of various and often paradoxical qualities and tendencies. It is rare if not impossible to find a person or thing that is predominantly characterized by a single quality or set of like qualities. Even examples such as Hitler or Mother Theresa support this contention. So yes, Maharishi is a liar. He has also spoken a lot of truth. Hes a cheat, but he has generously given far more than the average person. Hes a fraud, but judging from the benefits many have derived from his teachings, hes the real deal. And also, of course, Im all those things too. And you are. We all possess all qualities in various measures and degrees of manifestation. Youll find a lot in the files section and in the archives (Doug Hamilton posts an index periodically) that is quite damning. But most of Maharishis staunchest critics acknowledge that their lives have benefited tremendously from meditation, and that they had wonderful adventures and experiences with Maharishi and in his service. Maharishi is an extraordinary man who has had a profound influence on many people and on the culture at large. He is also, in some respects, an ordinary man who has carefully concealed his ordinariness in order to portray and preserve a public image. Much has been revealed in recent years, and more will be revealed after he dies. But I hope and predict that history will view him with a balanced perspective, as it has Gandhi, Thomas Jefferson, and other great men who had their fair share of human foibles. __._,_.___ To subscribe, send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Or go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/ and click 'Join This Group!' Hard-core 25-year meditator, and she still had a trifle of an anger problem, you say? Well, just think of what she might have been like without the TM--she might really have killed you for saying something negative about MMY. :) Experiences like that are, unfortunately, why most of us are on longer part of the movement. Nutty reactions like that are amongst the things that drove us away a long time ago. BTW, welcome to FF Life. Re: [FairfieldLife] Hello Fairfield
This is really so true, Rick, and despite my humorous (I think) response it's exactly the way I feel as well. We talk about MMY more than anyone else because he's been more important in our lives than most other people. Sal On Aug 11, 2006, at 10:02 PM, Rick Archer wrote: So yes, Maharishi is a liar. [FairfieldLife] ~~~Hello philosophical thinkers...
~~~Hello philosophical thinkers... Check out this very interesting/unorthodox-ed take on Jesus by joining this new group, click on the link... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Christian_Pantheists_and_Panentheists/ WHAT IS PANTHEISM? Modern Pantheism is often misunderstood. It has nothing to do with pantheon or polytheism- belief in many Gods. It is neither theism nor atheism, but transcends both. Its central tenet is that the universe is the ultimate reality, the ultimate object of reverence, while nature is a sacred part of the totality of which every one of us, in life or in death, is an inseparable part. Pantheism is an ancient religion - older than Buddhism or Christianity - and may already count hundreds of millions among its members. Most Taoists are pantheists, along with many Chinese, Japanese and Western Buddhists, deep ecologists, pagans, animists, followers of many native religions, and many Unitarian Universalists. The central philosophical scriptures of Hinduism are pantheistic. Many atheists and humanists may be pantheists without realizing it. Scientific or natural pantheism is a modern form of pantheism that deeply reveres the universe and nature and joyfully accepts and embraces life, the body and earth, but does not believe in any supernatural deities, entities or powers. The word Pantheism comes from two Greek words pan = all + theos = god. In Pantheism, all is god. Many Pantheists define god as Nature and its creative forces. God and Nature are one in the same. In contrast, many Monotheists (from mono = one+ theos = god) define god as a supernatural individual. God and Nature are separated. To identify god with Nature, rather than with a hallowed personage, seems odd to those unfamiliar with Pantheism. But actually Monotheism is less common than Pantheism in the history of religion. For tens of thousands of years, humans viewed the Earth as a sacred place with divinity everywhere. Religious scholar Denise Carmody notes The oldest God is nature...in the beginning, human beings sensed that their habitat was sacred. With twists and turns and numberless permutations, they played out this primal intuition. Modern Pantheism revivifies our species' gene-deep intuition that the Earth is indeed holy. Divinity infuses the world, the skies, the seas, the rocks, the trees, the animals, and ourselves. Pantheism gives perspective to all we do and instills a reverence for Nature which can help reverse the ecological crises of our times. As old as antiquity, and as fresh as today, Pantheism holds the promise for a brighter tomorrow. Additional Definitions These definitions relate the oneness of God and Nature as the keystone of Pantheism. The doctrine identifying the deity with the various forces and workings of nature. (The American Heritage Dictionary, Second Edition, 1970) The belief that God is identical with the universe. All is God and God is all. The universe taken as a whole is God. God and Nature ( the totality of all that there is) are synonymous, two words for the same thing. (The Harper Collins Dictionary of Philosophy, Second edition, 1992) Pantheism denotes religions which identify God with the universe. (Dictionary of Comparative Religion, 1970) The view that God is identical with everything. It may be seen as the result of two tendencies: an intense religious spirit and the belief that all reality is in some way united. (The Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy, 1995) The religious belief or philosophical theory that God and the universe are identical (implying a denial of the personality and transcendence of God); The doctrine that God is everything and everything is God. (The Oxford English Dictionary, second edition, 1989) The worship of nature (Greek pan=all) as divine (Greek theos=god). (The Harper Dictionary of Modern Thought, 1977) The doctrine that the universe conceived of as a whole is God and, conversely, that there is no God but the combined substance, forces, and laws that are manifested in the existing universe.(The New Encyclopedia Britannica, 15th edition, 1998) Pantheism is taken to express the belief that all is God or God is all, merging all things into the divine and denying personality to God or anyone else. (A Dictionary of Non-Christian Religions, Geoffrey Parrinder, 1971) In pantheistic views, God and the world are essentially identical; the divine is totally immanent. (The Oxford Dictionary of World Religions, 1997) The doctrine that the world as a whole, nature in the widest sense, is identical with God. (A Dictionary of Philosophy, Edited by Thomas Mautner, 1996) The God Of Pantheism If someone were to ask me whether I believed in God, or saw God, or had a particular relationship with God, I would reply that I don't separate God from my world in my thinking. I feel that God is everywhere. That's why I never feel separated from God or feel that I must seek God any more than a fish in the ocean feels it must seek water. In a sense,
