Nina Yes she does do recommandations. She is the one who recomended me to Emergency over Rescue. I myself found better results with Emergency than Rescue. I found that the Em does alittle more for my cats than the rescue but that's my opinion. She is not a vet but she does give flower essence advise. And most have worked for me. I find Sandi helpful and am very happy with her products and service. I have been happy with her service and products for about 2yrs so I order from her online all the time. Another good site for holistic/homeopathic care is Darla's: http://www.kitsnk9s.com/NatCAREHome.htm Sandi has diatomaceous earth for sale on her website. I think I'm going to try using it for my feral colonies, (on the ground, not in their food, I didn't even know it was ingestible). We're having a terrible time with fleas this year and I'm hoping it might help. I've heard of it before, but I'd forgotten about it. Phaewryn has posted about it before. I can't remember if there's any down side to it. Does anyone know if there are special precautions for using it? I guess I better Google it! Nina

We're all here to help you/each other! I had a chance to look at Frazier's book on feeding kittens, and she says that once weaned (as Ziggy is) a kitten can eat the same food formula you feed any healthy cat. She also says that this is definitely the time for an extra mineral vitamin supplement. Kittens need more of every nutrient to help their bodies manufacture strong muscles and bones. In her FELV section, where she gives detailed recommendations for diet, including giving Vita Min Mix, there is nothing in it about not giving to kittens. So I think it's safe to say Ziggy will benefit from it. Also, here's what she says about the possible outcomes after a negative cat comes into contact with a positive cat: The negative, but exposed cat may: ~~not become affected in any way; ~~become infected (positive), develop immunity, and revert again to being negative; ~~become positive, but not become ill and remain positive--thus becoming a new carrier of the virus; ~~become positive and develop lymphosarcoma, leukemia, or other cancer; or ~~become positive and be ill from the virus infection, much like flu; and then recover and remain positive or become negative. In my experience, your vet is exceptional in his attitude to FeLV cats--that's wonderful. Wish there were more like him. hope that helps, and big hugs to Ziggy! Since Ziggy tested pos for FeLV at such a young age would it be safe to assume he was born with it and is going to have it for the rest of his life? I know two of his littermates have tested pos also but not sure about the third one (he was the only male and the others were all female). I have to say that I am amazed by other members talking about their vets telling them to euthanize a FeLV pos cat. I now feel blessed to have my vet as he poo-poo'd the idea of euthanasia right from the start (I was the one who had to bring it up when I got the test results - I was extremely nieve then and to think it was only one week ago!). Although I am wondering if anyone has any idea if there is a vet who could be more knowledgeable about FeLV in the Phila suburban area - just as a precautionary measure. Also, Ziggy only had the ELISA snap test done, should I have gotten the IFA test immediately after? I have another appt on 6/30 for Zig and am wondering if I should request it then or wait a few more weeks? I am so happy to hear that all the other little angels are doing better! As always you all are in my prayers and Ziggy sends out a big Meow to everyone who is helping his mommy deal with this.

Re: Questions - Niki and Ziggy
Hi Niki, I know it's scary when our babies aren't feeling well. Try not to panic. You're on top of it, your taking Ziggy to the vet today and hopefully they'll figure out what is going on, treat it, and help him get better very soon. I would suggest to your vet to take additional blood samples at the same time. That way if the first test doesn't indicate what the problem is, they won't have to draw blood a second time. You might also ask the vet about prescribing Interferon A. Whether it helps or not is not conclusive, but it always seemed to make my kids feel better and it can't hurt. Lot's of people feel Transfer Factor helps boost their immune systems too. I use the stress formula when someone isn't feeling well. It really is important for you to remain calm. Ziggy will pick up on your dread and it will make the vet visit more difficult for him. Will your vet allow you to stay with him when they draw blood or do whatever tests they feel are necessary? Tell Ziggy what will be happening, (imagine it in your mind as you convey with words what they will be doing), reassure him that everyone will do their best to treat him kindly and with dignity. That you are going to figure out what is making him feel crummy and fix it! Grace had pica/anemia symptoms off and on for a very long time. We never found out for sure what was going on, my Internist treated for Hemobart, (blood parasites), with Doxycycline even though the test was neg, (it's notorious for not showing up). Grace always felt better after just a few days on that particular abx. Since he's got diarrhea too, would it be possible to bring a fresh stool sample in to the vet as well? Get as much of it as you can, (put it in the fridge to keep it fresh). My prayers are with you and Ziggy, let us know what the vet has to say as soon as you can, Nina Nicholena Rushton wrote: Hello all, I know that it has been some time since I wrote anything although I have been keeping up to date by reading the postings each day. One more thing... If you do end up putting Ziggy on abx, add a probiotics to his food at the same time. Health food stores carry them and sometimes kitties will eat plain yogurt on a plate or mixed in their food as well. N Nina wrote: Hi Niki, I know it's scary when our babies aren't feeling well. Anemia Support
I'm new here and first wanted to offer my emotional and energetic support to those of you caring for FeLV+ kittens and cats. My suggestion to you, due to the constant worry and stress we as caregivers can feel in providing ongoing care to sick kitties, is to support yourself with Flower Essences: specifically, Alpine Mint Bush and Crowea. These are Australian Bush Flower Essences (ABFE) and not as easy to find as Bach, but I've been using the ABFE for over a year now and find them very effective. As someone else mentioned, I prefer the ABFE Emergency Essence most of the time over Bach RR for day-to-day stresses for my cats and dogs. I order mine from (NCI): http://www.earthspirits-herbals.com/Americart/AllEssences/AusBushFE/AustBushFE.htm Now, on to more specific support for FeLV+ cats showing signs of anemia (pica, lethargy, with or without intermittent fever). While my first recommendation would be full Homeopathic support (which I believe will optimize the health of FeLV+ cats), there is also a good 'first aid' Homeopathic remedy for support in acute anemia: Ferrum phos (or Ferrum met). Ferrum phos as a tissue/cell salt (low potency = 6X) is readily available through most health food stores; the brand most commonly seen is Hyland's. You can read a little more about Ferrum phos here (NCI): http://www.1-800homeopathy.com/topics/cellsalts.html?productid=FEPH This is not the same as giving iron supplements; rather, it stimulates the body (systems, tissues, etc) to utilize iron properly for oxygenation of blood cells. I give Homeopathic remedies in 'aqueous dilution' meaning I prefer to dissolve the pellet in a 2 oz amber dropper bottle, and then give the doses in water that way. For anyone unfamiliar with Homeopathy and dosing this way, the following may help: http://www.kitsnk9s.com/HLiquidDosing.htm I hope this information helps your kitties. In Peace Harmony, Darla http://www.kitsnk9s.com

OK is transport to Texas possible? Who can get transport done? Did you see the other mix with the two babies? Can anyone get any additional info? I cannot make long distance calls from work. If its feasible to get them to Texas easier than to WA I will take the special needs girl and if the mom and babies are in danger them too. Can anyone help me make arrangements? see our available orphans at:http://members.petfinder.org/~TX418/index.htmlKaren 817-453-4888

Karen, if you arrange the adoptions, I can help you set up the transport. We'll need airports at either end. Oh, how I love a sucker for the special needs cats. Know anyone who would love to adopt a solid black shorthaired epileptic kitten? She's well maintained on phenobarbitol (7.5 mg twice a day), spayed, fully vaccinnated, FIV/FeLV/toxoplasmosis negative. She just has seizures if not given pheno. Good with other cats, would probably do well with a cat-friendly dog, stubborn, fearless, defiant little girl. Let me know[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: DFW INTERNATIONAL I can see what I can do about getting off early tomorrow. ITS VERY VERY HOT IN TEXAS RIGHT NOW. flights may be tough. No way the new borns can take a flight. I will just take the calico one eyed girl. (how I love special needs) terrie I do not want to step on your toes if you prefer to take her. Karen
speaking of special needs.....update
My little broken pelvis kitty goes for his check up (Ozzy) next week. He jumps on the bed and chases all the dogs like he was never injured. Sleeps on my pillow and purrs like a 350 Chevy. Now to get a black cat adopted..sigh... thanks to all who gave advice on his very hard stools. Karen
new needing help
I'm new, so here goes. I rescued 4 kittens born in my back yard by a stray who tested positive. Now I guess I have 4 kittens in my possession who are also positive. Is there any chance these kittens could end up negative after a few months? Can they sometimes fend off this infection in some way? I have 8 cats already, and trying to keep 4 kittens separated from them is almost impossible. I thought you had one member who was from the Ky area(which I am, also). I would love to hear from her regarding any possible sanctuaries, or great-souled people who might consider adding positives to their home. Does anyone ever have any luck finding adopters? I'm heartsick and soo desperate. Please help.
