I would also like to pitch in for his

Ask him to give Adri dexamethasone shots. They are not
expensive. They are steroids that will likely make Adri feel better if she has
anything other than an infection. Also ask for a basic blood work-up.  I
will help pay for it if you send me your address. It could be something simple

Re: Help for Adri

Also ask if they have a fund to help pay when people can not afford to pay the bills. Most animal hospitals say they have these funds and get people to donate to them, but then do not advertise that money is available. Ask them  if they have one of these funds for people to donate to.  If they say yes (they will think you are going to donate), tell them that you need to apply for help from the fund.

She has bad anemia, which can be from different things.  Ask your vet to give her dexamethasone shots, because this will help if it is from lymphoma or an auto-immune condition.  Also dexamethasone in case it is hemobartonella. Also Immuno-regulin, which you can order online from Revival Animal Health for $33, and there are articles about it on this group's website.

Ask him to give Adri dexamethasone shots. They are not expensive. They are steroids that will likely make Adri feel better if she has anything other than an infection. Also ask for a basic blood work-up.  I will help pay for it if you send me your address. It could be something simple and treatable.

Re: Help for Adri

2005-07-22 Thread Nina
From what you describe it does sound like anemia. The vet should be
able to tell you what he thinks it is without charging you any more
money. My Grace has been very sick in the past with anemic symptoms.
We think her's was caused by Hemobartinella. Putting her on Doxycycline
turned her around. Also, ask your vet for some Interferon to give
Adri. Did your vet say she is dehydrated? You could give her subq
(under the skin with a needle), fluids to keep her hydrated even if
she's not eating or drinking enough. There is a support group for
assist-feeding that could help you get some nutrition down her to
hopefully help her make it through this. I'm so sorry about Adri
condition and am praying she makes a comeback. I know how hard it is to
watch them suffer and my heart goes out to you. We all completely
understand not wanting to experience the heartbreak of Felv again. Try
to think about how very important you have been in Adri's life, how if
not for you she may never have gotten to live at all. Bless you for
opening your heart and home to her. I know it hurts, and I'm so sorry.

Anybody who has ever lost a pet for any
reason feels terrible—my family always had cats & dogs who had
somehow just shown up or that they got from someone who didn’t want them
anymore.  Whenever we lost one, as hard as it was, I always thought that
if that cat or dog hadn’t found us they would have died a terrible death
somewhere all alone….. If you and Adri hadn’t found each other,
imagine how hard it would have been for her.  You have given her some
wonderful time, a lot of love, & the best care possible….  And in
return she gives you love and all those great moments we all have with our pets…
I have 5 cats now, 2 are pos,--when their time comes, I won’t regret any
minute of my time with them.  No matter how things go with Adri, she will
always be in your heart…

If she is not eating, could you get a
sub-fluid bag from a vet and give her fluid yourself?  Ask if they can sell you
at their cost (which is very cheap) _ I think that hydration is critical
especially if she is not eating..

Alejandra,

Make certain the chicken broth doesn't have salt in it, she could be
dehydrating.  If you can find a vet that will try subq's with her, try
it.  If you don't have the money, ask if you could work it off by cleaning
cages or whatever.  Many vets will allow you to trade work for care in
servere casescall around in the phone book.

Good luck, You are both in my prayers.

  Shelia,

You have my prayers.  If Buck does pass, try to be happy for him,
and don't blame yourself.  Some animals and people prefer to be together
  always through all things.

I knew two people who were friends as toddlers, grew into adulthood,
married, lived together for 65 years and died within two hours of one
another.  The woman had cancer and developed pneumonia, she had to be
hospitalized .her husband had a heart attack the day after she was
admitted to the hospital.  His son was with the father when he passed,
his last words, "go be with your sister," who was with the mother in a
hospital 45 miles away.  Meanwhile while the son was in-route, the mother
smiled, took her daughter's hand and said, "baby...its time for me to go,
Daddy's coming to take me home..." her smile widened, "hey handsome", she
whispered, started to sit up, then just slipped away.  The daughter
didn't know her father had passed until her brother rushed into the room ten
  minutes later.

What I'm getting at is, even though it breaks our hearts to loose those
we lovefor them, there is often such JOY in going home.

How lucky both Buck and Spanky are to call you family & friend!
God bless you all and thank you for giving them a chance at a life with
love.  Its people like you who give me hope for the humanity.

Ah Sheila, I'm so sick about your boys. I know that you know that NONE
of this is your fault in ANY way. I'm praying that Buck decides to stay
for you, but you also know that if he doesn't, it's no reflection on
you, or the loving home he has with you. The call of his brother and
the lure of the blissful freedom the other side offers, may be too much
for him to resist. I'm so sorry Sheila. I can't even think of any
words of comfort at a time like this. Please know that my thoughts and
prayers are with you and your whole family.

Much love and heartache,
Nina

My prayers are with you and your boy Buck.  I know very well what you are going through and how you are berating yourself about Buck.  Cats are so adept at hiding their illnesses until it is close to critical.  Our boy Keuda never gave us a sign he was blocked until I touched him to pet him and he was burning with fever and staggered to the litter box.  We too were grieving from two losses of our older FeLV babies only days apart.   We like to think we are good cat moms and are always aware of what is happening with our babies, but sometimes as we are only human, we get consumed by something else (and the loss of a furchild is truly a great family loss).  Don't spend time berating yourself, channel that energy into prayers and healing light for your baby.

Sending prayers and healing thoughts.

Re: Prayers for Buck

2005-07-22 Thread tamara stickler
Shelia,

You have my prayers.  If Buck does pass, try to be happy for him, and don't blame yourself.  Some animals and people prefer to be together always through all things.

I knew two people who were friends as toddlers, grew into adulthood, married, lived together for 65 years and died within two hours of one another.  The woman had cancer and developed pneumonia, she had to be hospitalized .her husband had a heart attack the day after she was admitted to the hospital.  His son was with the father when he passed, his last words, "go be with your sister," who was with the mother in a hospital 45 miles away.  Meanwhile while the son was in-route, the mother smiled, took her daughter's hand and said, "baby...its time for me to go, Daddy's coming to take me home..." her smile widened, "hey handsome", she whispered, started to sit up, then just slipped away.  The daughter didn't know her father had passed until her brother rushed into the room ten minutes later.

What I'm getting at is, even though it breaks our hearts to loose those we lovefor them, there is often such JOY in going home.

How lucky both Buck and Spanky are to call you family & friend!  God bless you all and thank you for giving them a chance at a life with love.  Its people like you who give me hope for the humanity.
