GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR EVA. I HAVE 2 FELV POS BABIES, 1 IS 4 AND THE OTHER WE
GUESS AT 2. BOTH ARE HEALTHY, HAPPY AND DOING FINE. HOPE YOU FOUND HOMES FOR
THE BABIES. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF THEM. SOME DO SUCCOME TO SECONDARY
INFECTIONS, BUT MANY IF GIVEN GOOD CARE, LACK OF STRESS AND GOOD FOOD CAN LIVE
TO A RIPE OLD AGE. STRESS MAY BE OVERRATED, ANNIE AND NITNOY ARE BOTH EASILY
STRESSED, LIKE SOMEONE STARING AT THEM OR COMING AROUND A CORNER AND STARTLING
THEM. THEY HISS, SCREAM, FUSS AND GRUMBE FOR A BIT AND THEN FIND A HIGH SPOT
WHERE THEY CAN SEE THE OTHERS SNEAKING UP ON THEM. IT HASN'T SEEMED TO AFFECT
THEM MUCH. IWLL KEEP YOU AND EVA AND HER BABIES IN MY PRAYERS.

2010-06-12 Thread dlgegg

WHY IS WHIMSY STILL IN THE SUNROM? UNLESS HE DOESN'T GET ALONG WITH SOME OF
THE OTHERS, HE COULD COME IN. IF IT IS THE FELV STUFF, NO PROBLEM AS LONG AS
OTHERS ARE UP ON THIER SHOTS. ANNIE AND NITNOY HAE BOTH BEEN INSIDE, ANNIE FOR
2 YARS AND NITNOY FOR 1 YEAR AND SO FAR NO PROBLEMS. ONLY PROBLEM IS HOMIE,
SHE CAME UP WITH A URINARY PROBLEM, STRUVITE AND CALCIUM CYRSTALS AND WE ARE
WORKING ON THAT WITH MEDS AND FOOD, BUT NO CONNECTIONS WITH ANNIE OR
NITNOY. Beth wrote:

DOING IT AT "HIS" PACE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO WITH A FERAL. I HAVE HAD 2 SO
FAR, SHORTY PASSED AWAY AT 18 YEARS AND AFTER HE DECIDED TO LET ME TOUCH HIM,
BECAME A LAP BABY AND EVERY NIGHT HAD TO SLEEP ON MY BED. NITNOY IS TAKING A
LITTLE LONGER BECAUSE SHE LOST ALL BUT 3" OF THER TAIL TO A RACCOON AND SHE IS
STILL A BIT SKITISH, ALTHOUGH SHE IS INSIDE AT NIGHT AND ON COLD, RAINY DAYS.
SHE WILL SIT WITH ME ON TH SOFA, BUT STILL DOES NOT LIKE TO BE TOUCHED TOO MUCH
AND NEVER, NEVER TOUCH HER TAIL. DORLIS

Bless your heart Sharyl. So sorry. I'm going to have to get more candles for

Subject: [Felvtalk] CLS for Daisy

I had to have Daisy, one of my yard ferals, PTS today. She had lost the use of
her back legs. I've had her in a cage for several days trying to see if she
would recover. The vet and I are guessing complications from FeLV. I never had
her tested but she was the momma to Bright Eyes, Houdini, CJ and Mattie all of
whom were positive. Also from the same litter as Sissy and Rocket who did test
positive.

Even though Daisy was a true feral - hissing at me till the end - it
still hurts to much when I lose them. Daisy has joined Mae, Sissy, Bright Eyes,
Houdini, CJ and Mattie my other positives at the Rainbow Bridge.

Sad night at the cottage

Lorrie, I understand what you are going through with your CRF kitty. It seems
if a kitty lives long enough he develops CRF. That is a tough chronic disease
to manage. I found lots of info and help at www.felineCRF.org
Hugs to your sweetie.

Re: [Felvtalk] Daisy

2010-06-12 Thread Lorrie
Sharyl,
I'm so sorry you lost Daisy. I've had several FelV cats who lost
the use of their back legs, and this seems to be a very common
thing. I don't know exactly what causes their legs to stop
working, but it happens. If anyone in the group knows the actual
cause I'd like to know.

Losing a cat, feral or pet is always terribly sad. I'm also very
sad today as my 17 year old CRF cat is dying. I've had him since
1993 and I almost lost him in the spring of 2009, so he has lived
longer than expected, but it is still terrible to see them go. He
was totally feral when I found him, and it took me almost two years
to gain his trust, but when I finally did, he turned into a big
mush. He loved to be on my lap being petted and brushed, and I'll
miss him terribly, but I believe they will all be waiting for us at
the rainbow bridge.
