So I'm not the only one who makes up little songs for the cats! Each cat has its own song (some have several) -- a kind of theme song. For some reason, I do this for every cat. Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats
The listmom of my feral-cats list (she is Wiccan) feels strongly that cats love to be sung to, and to have their own special song. So y'all are on the right track! She also says that cats love to be told their own story -- where they came from, how you met them, whatever. She feels that there is a special kind of communication and they sort of understand on a cellular level that the song or story is about them. I'm not as radical as that, but I do occasionally try to tell one cat or another its story. Can't hurt! Oh, and she tells people to explain things to cats and ask their permission, forgiveness or whatever. This might be useful for those of us going through hard times with our kitties -- assisted feeding, pilling etc. Diane R. -Original Message- From: felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org [mailto:felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org] On Behalf Of Bonnie Hogue Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2010 1:57 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats So I'm not the only one who makes up little songs for the cats! Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats
That's lovely Diane, all very great info. We always talk about wishing they came with a 'baby book', because we have such a curiosity to know what their lives were like before us, what happened, what their story was. We usually fill in the gaps. For example, Whimsy is descended from the Czar cats of Meowscow, hence his long fluffy coat for keeping warm in winter. :) Well, that's what he told me anyhow. --- On Thu, 12/30/10, Diane Rosenfeldt drosenfe...@wi.rr.com wrote: From: Diane Rosenfeldt drosenfe...@wi.rr.com Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Date: Thursday, December 30, 2010, 5:54 PM The listmom of my feral-cats list (she is Wiccan) feels strongly that cats love to be sung to, and to have their own special song. [Felvtalk] Whimsy update (happy news)
After a stressful, scary week, Whimsy, aka the Whimzinator, is back and better than ever. I knew all he wanted was to go out, so relunctantly, I took him in the yard with me for an hour in the cold, and he was thrilled. he sniffed, walked around, and then ran back in. He was satisfied, had his fill. He literally came back to life in front of my eyes. He hasn't wanted to go out since, and we don't have any plans to do so. Just to build his enclosure. It was against everything I believe is right, but I felt him telling me it was the only way he'd eat again. I really felt he would die if he didn't get to do this. The pepcid injections helped too - but right after he ran in, he ate again, after barely eating for 6 days. He's now back to where he was calorie wise, and is even more loving and cuddly... go figure... thank you everyone for your help. And thank you for the suggestions on nausea - i think he got a sour tummy from being upset, and created a big problem for himself. your suggestions made me remember i could get pepcid injections (since we can't pill him) and this was great. Re: [Felvtalk] Whimsy update (happy news)
Blessings to you and to Whimsy. When it was time for Ebony to leave this world, I took him out in the snow and let himsit/lay in the cold. This is what he wanted and we froze until the vet got there on New Year's Eve nightMiddletown Animal Clinic rocks. Taking a very old, sick cat out into the cold and snow made no sense to anyone but the two of us. You have a heart connection with Whimsy and I am so glad it worked. Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats
That's another thing: ALWAYS listen to what they tell you, and accept it at face value! ;-) Have you ever read Paul Gallico's wonderful Thomasina? SHE refers to herself as Sekhmet Bast-Ra, Cat Goddess of Bubastis. Re: [Felvtalk] Whimsy update (happy news)
Wow, Shannon, that is fabulous news! And really weird since it sounded like once he got out he would never want to come back in. Most of our cats have been outdoor cats before they came here (3 were feral, one a stray) and when they look out the window at the subzero winter we wish there was a way to let them know how much better off they are inside. Luckily none of them ever really made an issue of it, and it's so cool that Whimsy seems to be satisfied now as well. I brought some snow in for Copper and Thomasin a tote to the garage and let them play/explore it. Just an idea. Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats
Same here, I sing to my feral kittens and they seem to love it. Trapped one in a snowstorm who was very ill and kept moving away, but fell asleep when I sang to him. When I got close, he'd wake and I'd stop, look away, start singing again when he relaxed and stoped looking at me. Finally got close enough to sing, let him nod off, scruff, drop in trap. I don't have a very good voice and could only remember Christmas songs at the time because I was so nervous for him, but it sure worked. Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats
Diane Thanks for that. It might seem a bit out there but does strike a certain chord. Of course, I'm a northern Californian, so... But I do also feel compelled to sometimes tell the cats their own story and praise them for their accomplishments (my one cat, Miya, had a litter of kittens at the creek and didn't come in from the cold until all the kittens had found a home). I do thank my cats for their friendship...again, who knows, maybe I'm just talking to myself, but it makes me feel better and the cat certainly tolerates it! ~Bonnie - Original Message - From: Diane Rosenfeldt drosenfe...@wi.rr.com To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2010 3:54 PM Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] Singing to Cats The listmom of my feral-cats list (she is Wiccan) feels strongly that cats love to be sung to, and to have their own special song.
