Hi Kelley,

I also use Revolution for my kitty, Shane. However, there are other
preventatives available. Merial makes Heartgard (ivermectin) for cats and
Novartis makes Interceptor (milbemycin oxime), so those would be other
options. My vet prefers Revolution, I guess because it also deals with
fleas, etc., plus it doesn't involve trying to get a pill into the cat
(always a plus!). LOL

After going through a three-month treatment process for my heartworm
positive dog (found out he had it after I adopted him from the shelter) and
learning how deadly it can be in cats, I decided that in this case,
prevention is the way to go (I feel the benefits outweigh the risks of using
these chemicals).

Yes, all my cats are on Revolution (the adult ones).

Ye gods it is expensive, even ordering from Australia:(

I think that Revolution has enough additional benefits to teh cat to
merit it use.

So true...
And, I always tended to avoid using them, bathing dogs, etc., but now, since

And, when I [finally] got home from hosp., I had a SEVERE flea epidemic!!!
(Rainy spring...)
Needless to say, dogs had to go out, all my cats are indoor only, but, well,
fleas are monsters!!!
And, bathing some of my cats [now] is next to impossible. Any suggestions???
And, guess what? Another rainy spring, fleas are starting...
I guess I could hose down bathe the K-9's prior to bringing them in.
But, they only go out for walks, not chained outside or anything, but those

Patti, I think in cases where people have indoor/outdoor pets, like dogs,
and live in a high flea zone, it's almost impossible to avoid repellant type
fleas medications. It's probably worth the risk in those cases.

Yall are lucky in that respect. For me it is a much bigger risk to
leave them unprotected for heartworms. Awareness is ok around
here..we even have a billbord on I-35 - One heartworm can kill your
cat. Treatment isn't anywhere naer as good as it is in dogs.

So many times I find it is a matter of picking which option is less
dangerous. Which I hate, but what can you do

I almost lost one of my cats using Advantage,,
She was 3 years old went into a semi-coma Was hospitalized for over
3 weeks.
Still never found out why. Thought I would lose her. I was frantic,
didn't know just what the problem was
Thank heavens she finally came around -after a really long time.
I will NEVER use it again!
Now use Frontline - NO problems at all...
Still can't figure what the problem was. Either could vet.

*I had a similar situation with Frontline. Threw my boy Alex into liver
failure. When the vet looked at his CBC he looked baffled and all he could
say was This is a train wreck! - He explained that all he could do is
start with the most important organs and work his way up. Thought we would
lose Alex too... I'm very careful with Frontline... never had trouble with
Advantage though.*

This is the second time you've mentioned your kitten's flea problem. If
your kitten's flea infestation is great, they could be causing more

guys have serious URI symptoms. You are there, you would know better
than me if it's worth it, or not. I just wanted to mention that I have
applied the tiniest amount of advantage to healthy kittens as young as 3
weeks old. I put a drop of advantage on the end of a qtip and then
apply that to the kitten. The next day, no more fleas. I wouldn't use
revolution because of what happened to Kerry's kitty, (as Phaewryn just

I have not treated my kittens for fleas at all, other than combing and
bathing them, and I'm not bathing them atm because they are sick.

So on top of everything else we have fleas...my vet will not allow me
to give capstar at less than 2 lb. 2 lb seems like a HUGE cat to me

Zithromax is considered safe for pregnant and nursing moms. I googled it once
upon a time and found the information (breeder related but it may be on the
manufacturer's packaging.) ust google it and you'll find it. Your vet is
definitely wrong on this one.

I have also used Advantage on tiny kittens. I just do a dab on my fingertip
and touch to the back of the kitten's neck. I've never had an adverse reaction
but you can always wash them off if you get nervous. I reserve Revolution of
those over 4 months
