My vet is 120 miles away. He gives me frozen viles of the interferon + the solution to mix it with. I prefer to have them do the mixing so I pick up the premixed stuff when I am in town. Belinda, I made an error. He's on it twice a day for 2 weeks. A total of 40 mg per day. I'll talk to the vet again as he gets closer to finishing this course. I think by then he will be on the Intrferon. I don't know if this cat could survive having to take the liquid medicine plus a shot in the same day. He really is as he is named, a complete Boob. I seem to remember my vet telling me the diluted interferon is only good for three months. A three month supply cost me $30.00 if I remember, it's been a long time ago. I'm glad Boo is on the doxy, but a week is not long enough, it should be for a 3 or 4 week minimum. The taste is disgusting, can you get the pill form, you could put the pill in a pill pocket or empty capsule and he wouldn't even taste it. I remember taking Doxycycline at one point Marylyn and it made me so sick. I'm timing it for when I know he's had something to eat. The pharmacist told me to do this. I would definitely be happier using pills. Last summer we had to give our turtle a course of antibiotics because this other turtle bit her. It was easy to give her liquid because as soon as you get too close Dottie opens her mouth. I would stick the syringe in her mouth and automatically she would clamp down on it and down her throat the medicine would go. If only cats were as easy as turtles. You might try leaving a faucet running too. Or getting a drinking fountain. Dixie gets bottled water..the tap water here has too many odors to suit me and changes with the lake level. I am very sure she would not like it and we travel quite bite so I just carry some with us. She is the purrfect traveller. Lynne Did you doctor recommend a probiotic while giving him the anti-biotic? I use FortiFlora. I am sure there are other good ones, but it will help his digestive track and it restores the 'good' bacteria that the antibiotics destroy. If you are trying to get him to drink more, try putting ice cubes in the water. I have had some luck doing that with some of the cats I have had that would not drink anything. Lynne, I usually give meds with food in case they upset the stomach. You might check and make sure it is "ok" to give doxy with food. I can't think of any med I haven't been able to give with food, though. Lucy never drinks water but she eats canned food so gets her fluids that way. If you feed canned, him not drinking shouldn't be a big deal. Good luck. Again, you never know how long BooBoo might be with you. Could be a good long time.
