Hey Michael, You are right. There's a very good possibility it's just a UTI, which is easily treated usually. I don't necessarily see any relation between UTI's and FeLV + status, but I do see it with URI's. RE: Collecting a stool sample?
The "ew" factor in this conversation just keeps escalating -- but maybe you could use a plastic spoon, or something else you can just toss away, to scrape as much of the excess litter off the sample as possible. BTW, my vet's office advises that they need the sample "mooshy" -- I believe that's a medical term meaning not-hard. Which is one of the reasons they prefer as new a sample as possible. In our 5-cat household, the only sure way to know if the sample is really from the cat in question is to put him/her in a room alone with a litterbox and hope he/she feels the need during the allotted time frame. Hi Michael, To collect a urine sample, try replacing the litter with those little aquarium pebbles/stones. That way when Grizzabella goes in the litter box, you can just pour off the urine into a container. It's much easier than trying to collect a sample mid-stream. RE: Collecting a stool sample?
My vet just told me to watch and collect poop when the kitty goes-pick out of litter box. As for urine, that I've never tried. I've seen my vet do it-he'll squeeze kitty in a certain spot and then kitty will go on the table. Then the vet used a syringe to collect off the table. I wouldn't try the squeezing, but if you could catch the urine in a bowl as she is going, then you could get a syringe-full or put it in a plastic glad-ware container or some such thing. Regardless, it won't be much fun staking out the litter box! Good luck, and best wishes for Grizzabella. RE: Collecting a stool sample?
For a stool sample, I think all you need it a fresh stool. So, try not get any from the night before. The vet also needs it to be relatively free of litter, which I find is usually the case, unless you use the crystals like I did with Monkee. I just always scooped some out and put it in a plastic grocery bag. I have heard of other people putting it into an empty/old prescription pill bottle (I guess that way it won't smell so bad on the way to the vet's). The stool sample should be pretty easy to handle. Just collect right before you leave for the vet- that is what I always did. As for a urine sample, I have no idea? I have never been asked to provide one for a pet and I've had a lot of pets (my dad was a vet)! Just take in the stool sample and then go from there is my suggestion. -Caroline From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Reply-To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.orgTo: felvtalk@felineleukemia.orgSubject: Collecting a stool sample?Date: Wed, 12 Sep 2007 15:19:52 EDT Hey guys, I just got home a few minutes ago and Jeff had been holding Grizzabella earlier.
