There is no solution that is fully automatic. Using left barline attached
expressions is a pretty good workaround, but it will not be automatic
unless your score and parts have the same page, system and staff sizes and
percent sizes. For me this is almost never the case.

I generally DON'T use dotted rests, except in 12/8 (and maybe some other
composed metres). 6/8 definitely not, but 9/8 is a toss-up. If there is a lot
of syncopation in 9/8, I would go for dotted rests, which clarify the beat. If
most of it was regular divisions and subdivisions, I would stick w
I know that many texts tell us not to use dotted-rests, but I've never
had a problem with them, especially dotted-quarter rests in 6/8 and 9/8.
It's so obvious it's one half one third of the measure.

Is there a way to position more precisely than just eyeballing it?

Attaching titles to a specific measure as expressions will get you on the
right page and approximate position, but as far as I know there is no way to
specify the position of an expression as centered on the page (which is what
I want for titles). I'm still making titles page-attached text blocks
from Herbert Chlapik, Die Praxis des Notengraphikers (Doblinger 1987):
"Für den 6/8- und 9/8-Takt sind die geteilten Pausen noch entschieden
vorzuziehen."
(for 6/8 and 9/8 meter, the divided rests are definitely to be preferred)

Thanks Dennis,
That's the only solution I could find - I thought maybe I was missing
something.
Thanks,

Hi Folks,
I'm writing a multi movt piece in one file. Is there an easy way to put
the titles in the score and have them keep the same position in the parts?
I'm clearly doing something wrong as they appear sometimes in the middle of
the page, sometimes on the left or right or sometimes not at all
Hi all,
can anybody tell me the best way
wether to notate rest in 6/8 meter (or 9/8 etc)
as dottet-quarter-rest or as quarter rest + eight-rest?
The composer uses quarter rest + eight-rest.
Any deeper reasons for the one/other way?
Classical work for big symphony orchestra.
