Once of the great improvements in 2014 and higher is beat-attachment of
smarts shapes (rather than measure attachment). Not only can you get more
precise endpoints, you can unlink the endpoints in parts and edit them
separately.

Hi all,
I've kept working in Fin2011 for several years, because it has met my needs
and because I haven't been working in Finale enough lately to figure out a
new version. But I've been having a few minor compatibility issues with
Windows 10, so I think it's time to move on.
I have both Fin2012 a

I've had fair results with the 2014 "save to 2012" feature - seems to
work pretty well. Kim could ask her student to do so. Not sure about
the 2012-2011 transfer, though.
I am trying to figure out what 2014 does better (many things), do them
on this large project, and maybe save back to 2012 for
Kim - I think you can upgrade for $139. Keep in mind that your Mac OS must be
10.7 or higher for Finale 2014.

Hey guys,
I’ve got MacFin11. One of my students (via Skype) has the latest
version, so I cannot open his files when he sends me assignments. Is it going
to cost me an arm and leg to upgrade, being this far behind. I’m happy just
having 2011 version, except for this.

Jim,
Unfortunately I have no 12x18 paper to test to. I mainly print single sheets
here. My larger prints (two sheet paper i.e. 12x18) are printed elsewhere. I
have no need to keep that paper in stock. I print large formatted scores mostly.

Scott,
What size paper are you printing on? I can print on 8½ x 11 & 11 x 17 both
landscape and portrait, and 9 x 12 portrait with no problem. But when I try to
print on 12 x 18 landscape I am not able. As I have researched this it seems to
apply across the board outside of Finale. I noticed a
I wish I understood how this is working for you. I am not the only one with
this problem.

This thread aptly describes my experience - including HP's eagerness to sell me
a new printer. They simply say that they no longer support the "old" product.
That still confuses me chuck because I never once had a printing problem with
my HP 5000 when I upgraded to Mavericks or now even on 10.10. Now I don’t
duplex but I print booklet style and multiple sizes of paper as well.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my inquiry. Unfortunately, a $119 upgrade
offer appeared in my inbox before I came back to check the list, and I bit the
bullet. (Feeling REALLY broke now.) Sure wish I knew why Finale 2012 wasn't
opening for me.

Incompatibility with an old (and still reliable) HP 5000 is the only thing that

I am running 10.10 beta and can go back as far as 2009 Finale and working fine.
I tried 2008 and half way through start up I get an "Unhanded exception caught"

The only problem I had after the Mavericks upgrade was printing 2 sides up on
12x18 landscape. Seems to be a compatibility problem with Mavericks and HP.
The only way I can make it work is to save as a PDF and configure each PDF part
separately to 12X18 landscape. If anyone has a work around, I

Actually, 10.9 upgrade was probably the most painless upgrade in a

Finale 2012 is supposed to work in Mavericks. Have you tried re-installing?
Often the Finale installation breaks for me when I upgrade the OS or migrate to
another computer. Re-installation fixes it.

Anyone have any idea whether there is likely to be an upcoming upgrade-special

Do I need to "de-authorize" Finale before upgrading to Mavericks, or
will Finale continue to be authorized?

Aha. My issue is that the stop button is on a different monitor, so I am

Hi Robert,
Glad it helped! Please let MM know, this is a nasty bug and it had me tearing
my hair out for days until I discovered that it was MIDI Thru related.
As for the playback, I've long gotten into the habit of clicking the "Stop"
button on the playback controls before hitting spacebar, wh
Hi Robert,
Yes -- you can assign the MIDI Thru to an empty Fixed channel that does not
have an instrument associated with it.
Let me know if this helps! If it does, please report it to MM, as the bug is
100% reproducible on my system, but it would be nice to have corroboration.

Aha. I did turn off MIDI Thru because I didn't want to hear the instrument

Hi Robert,
I was getting severe crashes with Fin2012a, which I eventually discovered were
related to my MIDI Thru setting, of all things.
If your MIDI Thru is currently set to "Off," try turning it on (use "Fixed" or
"Smart" or whatever, it doesn't seem to matter so long as it is on) and see if
