Re: [Finale] Group Barline override Staff Barline

2012-06-22 Thread Robert Patterson
FWIW: The file was originally created in Fin97 when neither staff styles
nor multi-select measure attributes was available. I of course know all the
ways to do it now. What burns me is the arbitrary change in how the feature
works and the failure of the upgrade process to report that I would need to
fix it.

not really an answer to your question, but this should have been your

a metatool), they remain in place despite layout changes, contrary to
the use of staff groups in some contexts.

Creating a staff style to hide the barline sound like the most obvious
 method?

[Finale] staff groups reset removes my changes

2012-06-22 Thread SN jef chippewa

in F2012 (recently upgraded from 2010) i am really having trouble
with the way staff groups work.

i have over 60 groups somehow defined in the document...

when i reset all groups and brackets they are set to what finale
thinks is right, not to what i defined in scroll view. for example,
i set the bracket which includes fl2-3 to also include piccolo, reset
brackets and the piccolo is no longer included in the flutes group
bracket because it is considered to be another instrument (?!). i
have unchecked Automatic Instrument Family Group Brackets in
Program Options-Edit.

what is the best way to deal with this? set the piccolo in score
manager to flute (so it appears as fl. 1) and then set the piccolo as
a region in the score manager? even if it plays piccolo in the
entire score?

Not go away for good. Show brought it back with the same behavior. Entering
notes on the renegade staff via Speedy put them on the *other* staff. It was

i found some i can't even hide, even though i selected all measures
in the system and cleared them. it does seem to be linked to the
system in question: P2 and P4 look normal, P3 has 3 renegades; i
moved the last measure of S3 up to the previous page, P2 and P4 sitll
look fine, P3 (now containing P4's previous measures) still shows
renegades.

also note that hiding empty staves (by selecting entire system) and
showing empty staves can screw up the staff groups?!

--

ah, dennis, try showing all, then reset groups / brackets (utilities
menu) and hide again, does this work? i just managed to lose some
renagades that were persistent.

[Finale] Finale 2012 questions

2012-06-22 Thread J D Thomas
Hey all,

Has anyone had any contact with Tobias about TGTools and whether he intends to
continue their development? I emailed him a couple weeks ago and heard nothing
back.

I'm working on a file in Mac 2012 and Cross-Staff simply won't work. I hate
the idea of having to kludge around with Note Mover, Reverse Stems and all the
rest of that crap. TGTools was so elegant, but it won't work either from the
dialog or the usual keyboard shortcut, and Finale seems to only show the old
multi-step method. And I have a boatload of these to do.

Thanks.

i think the solution was to select all (whole document), show empty
staves, reset brackets, then click on a single renegade stave and
select hide empty stave (should do it for only that system), then
select a real staff and show empty.

selecting a renegade and pulling up context menu for delete staves
and reposition also works, but this really shouldn't have been
necessary at all... does it work for you? i'm not sure how you were

also very useful to see to what extent you have to compromise the
smart shape positioning in the score so it looks good in the parts.
especially when you need to copy the hairpins across several voices.

It will be particularly helpful with placement of elements
(dynamics, etc.) so that one can get good positioning
that will work in both part and score.

Re: [Finale] MakeMusic tip of the day

2012-06-22 Thread SN jef chippewa

can anyone confirm (mac) that when you have one document hidden
(minimized) and another visible, the tiling behaves as if the
minimized doc was visble? i.e. a blank space appears as one of the
tiles? same thing if you have 1 doc hidden and one visible, select
new window, select tiling and the screen is split in three but one
window is blank (missing)?

the tile command puts one window on the top half and the other
window on the bottom half. Is there a quick way to position one
window on the left and the other window on the right?

, also apparently when making clef changes in either SC or PT,
you have to redraw the other before it becomes visible?

The only long standing bug with these windows is that when in Show Active
Layer Only you cannot switch layers in any of the windows which can be a
pain when copying percussion articulations.

If MM can buy Garritan, I don't see why they don't buy TG Tools and include
them in Finale. Request for 2014?

Update: I did get TGTools to cross-staff. I was using the wrong keyboard

But my overall concern about the future of TGT still lingers. I for one
would be more than willing to pay for an upgrade.

 Hey all,

Has anyone had any contact with Tobias about TGTools and whether he intends

I'm working on a file in Mac 2012 and Cross-Staff simply won't work. I hate
the idea of having to kludge around with Note Mover, Reverse Stems and all
the rest of that crap. TGTools was so elegant, but it won't work either
from the dialog or the usual keyboard shortcut, and Finale seems to only
show the old multi-step method. And I have a boatload of these to do.

 Thanks.

Re: [Finale] renegade staves i can't get rid of

perhaps related to something i did when setting up the doc...

there are 3 renegade staves that don't appear in the score manager
anywhere but appear on one page at the top of the score. when i
2-click on one of them, the piccolo Staff Attributes pop up and then
when i click on the instrument list to choose something other than
the piccolo, they (violin, violin, cello) don't appear:

Are you sure it's not an instrument change of an existing staff? It sure
sounds like it. But then you should see the instrument change when you
expand the original instrument in the Score Manager.

Everything's archived now, and I don't know where the renegade was. If I have
to open that score again, I'll check.

I'm still not using some of the tools, though. I've never used or even looked
at the staff manager in Finale or in (I think) TGTools.

[Finale] different artic positioning F2010/F2012

2012-06-22 Thread SN jef chippewa

anyone know why this would happen? trying to figure this out before
i go through my 2012 template and change all my default settings.
they are identical to my F2012 settings and the font annotation in
F2012 is a copy of 2010 (just updated to verify) but the positioning
of the flipped symbol is different, in F2012 much closer to the
notehead than in 2010.

on the left, F2010, on R F2012:

Is there an easy way to get Finale (2011) to place even page numbers in the
left corner and odd page numbers in the right corner by default? The only
thing I can think to do is create page numbers on each side and hide the

score.. that would be incredibly tedious. Would love an easy and quick
solution if anyone has anything to offer.

Unless I misunderstand you, you'll want to check 'use right page positioning'
in the page number attributes.
