I am not necessarily shy of doing investments, but I want them being functional.
I am on Finale Mac 2012 (newest upgrade) and the Garritan sounds coming with
the application are accessible via the score manager. I like the string,
clarinet, and horn sounds better than some of the low brass
Something else I noticed -
I had a lead sheet with chords attached to the melody line.
I tried to transpose it without changing the melody, from C major to F major,
so I used other and specified hold pitches modally in the key signature
menu.
To my utter amazement, it transposed the chords ! !
When I asked about this some time ago,
someone remarked well it is the key of C.
revealing their lack of knowledge.
In a complex orchestral piece, the composer sometimes does not want a key
signature,
since there would be a plethora of accidentals no matter what key you are in.
One example is
Klaus,
I can't answer everything you asked, but GPO and other Garritan libraries are
accessible through the Score Manager.

normally 4/4 measures,
but this particular phrase had an extra two beats in it.
I thought it would be easier to make a measure 6 beats, instead of
splitting it up into a 4/4 and a 2/4 measure.

I upgraded to Winfin 2012 and since upgrading have found the Garritan(?)
sounds to be much inferior to those I had in Finale 2006, in fact, now they
sound very much like a computer, though not as bad as midi.
With the 2006 sounds people often asked, is this live or a computer. The
question would
When defining the transposition of the instruments, choose other then set
the transposition from the chromatic drop down menus.

If they have a RTAS plugin included with it, yes.
Honestly though, there are a lot of other libraries that sound a LOT
better..and you might want to consider looking into some of them if you
plan on doing VI work in something other than Finale.

Hi William,
This is what I suspected, and is exactly the kind of situation where using 6/4
as a duple meter (instead of 3/2) makes perfect sense.
Cheers,

Just select chromatic transposition in the stave setup.
