Re: [Finale] Beaming over rests
OK, I got a chance finally to look at this again this morning, applying the info I got here. Thanks for everyone's input. But there are still issues. For example, this is the original layout of a measure in question: inline: ex1.jpg The client wants it to look like this: inline: ex2.jpg This 2nd example was achieved ONLY by selecting Extend beams over rests globally, and that creates some issues with the feathered beams. Using the Beam extension tool instead, created issues with the first pair of 16ths, making the 16th beam disappear, and interacting with the feathered beams at the opposite end in an unwanted way. Naturally, by using the global Extend beams over rests, created problems elsewhere in the score. For example, this: inline: ex3.jpg became this: inline: ex4.jpg And then there's an issue with showing stem stubs, which is also a global attribute, solving a problem in one part of the score and creating problems elsewhere. So, any ideas from the collective wisdom here would be most appreciated. Perhaps I'm still overlooking something. I will be starting a case with tech support at MM on this request as well. Thanks again. Re: [Finale] Beaming over rests
Your example helped illustrate the problem. In this case you need to break the beam befor the 32nd notes. Use the beam extention tool on both extending the stubs AND extend the 8th beam backwards to connect the 32nd note group to the 16ths. [Finale] Beaming over rests
Using FinMac 2K7, is there a way to have Finale beam over rests, NOT globally, but on a case by case basis. This has been lacking in every version, and I've just accepted that. Now a client want's a specific look and I don't see any options via the Document Options, Staff Styles, or even plug-ins, including Robert's. Any suggestions? Yep, I wasn't completely clear. Right now, I am able to beam over rests, but the secondary beams are broken in the global setting, and the client wants them solidly across the rests in some instances, along with stub stems to more clearly indicate the rhythm. That's what I'm looking for specifically, and I'm trying to avoid a convoluted kludge via Shape Designer or similar. Sorry I was a bit vague. I have accomplished this in the past by entering a REAL note close to the beam where I wanted the rest, then changing the notehead to a blank character, changing the beam angle with Special Tools so that the missing notehead looks like it was a stem stub, and adding the rest back in another layer, hiding with O in Speedy the ones I don't need. Big pain, I know. But the good news is that you can copy this to other places where you have a similar rhythm, then change pitches. Christopher BTW, open a case and make a feature request. The more of us ask, the more likely it will be addressed. I would LOVE to see it as a Staff Style, for instance. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

[Finale] Beaming over rests
I have a client who is writing a piece that contains quite a bit of modern notation conventions. In one instance, he has a series of many 64th notes in one measure, with a few rests in the pattern. He wants all 4 beams showing over the rests so I can feather the beams. But Finale 2K7Mac will only allow me to do this globally, which I don't want to do. I've looked at Patterson's and TGTools to help, but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best was to accomplish this look? Thanks. Re: [Finale] Beaming over rests
Probably the easiest option is the put in the rests as notes and then change the notehead symbols to rest symbols. If you care about playback, you can turn off the playback bit on the rests using the Frame Dialog box. If the rests are other than 64th rests, you may have to insert invisible tuplets as needed, so as to keep 4 beams at all times. Depending on the rest pattern, it is sometimes possible lengthen the secondary beam stubs across the entire beam. I have longed for local beam options, either in the beam tool or as a staff style option, but MM seems too busy with other priorities to consider it. But with linked parts, these kinds of workarounds are often not compatible with both score and part views, so we may see pressure build to address the more common ones. -Original Message- From: ThomaStudios [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, October 27, 2006 02:46 PM To: finale@shsu.edu Subject: [Finale] Beaming over rests I have a client who is writing a piece that contains quite a bit of modern notation conventions.
