I'm afraid not. It's a known problem, and connecting an external monitor will
not help. You need to rebuild your prefs.

Sorry, more and well arranged pixels will solve the problem. I work with 3 or 4
monitor. If one fails or if I for other reasons rearrange them, I may loose the
said dialog box. If I open Finale and by means of screen preferences move one
or more monitors around relative to the home screen, then the box will appear.

Klaus,

I am 95% certain that Mark's problem is that he's trying to use a set of
preferences originally generated on a PPC Mac on an Intel-based Mac. When you
do this, the Edit Margins dialog boxes do not show up *anywhere* on screen.
It doesn't matter how many pixels he adds, because the dialog boxes are not
being displayed offscreen -- they are not being displayed at all.

It's a known issue, and the only solution is to rebuild the preferences from
scratch.

Yes. That is indeed the case.

The new machine does not have a smaller screen. There's no particular reason to
think it was off screen except that I couldn't think of any other reason why

Problem about changing screen resolution is, that MacBook has its maximum
resolution as its default. And you need more pixels to see the disappeared box.

There may be yet another solution. If you still have your previous system, open
a Finale file there, drag the dialogue box to the center of the first page,
close and save, move to the MacBook, and there place the dialogue box where you
want it.

Apparently your new screen has fewer pixels than your previous one, where
the said dialog bow was near the edge.

One method maybe solving the problem is about adding an external monitor,
if you have one, and then about by means of the monitor control panel from
system controls  moving that external monitor around until you see the
dialog box. Then drag the box to your on-board screen and unmount the
 external monitor.

My terms may be inexact, as I work on Macs with Danish as the system

I've recently switched to a new computer (MacBook Pro).  The re-install
and copy of Finale preferences went pretty smoothly, except that today I
discovered that my Edit System Margins dialog box won't appear.  When I do
Page Layout Systems Edit Margins it acts as if it's doing it, except the
dialog box is nowhere to be found. I can only conclude that somehow it
managed to get located off my screen.

If I remove the preferences file and restart Finale, it does indeed appear
again. But then everything else looks wrong because I lose a ton of other
preferences that I want to keep.  Is there any way I can get that one dialog
box back without having to reset all my preferences from scratch?
