hello,
i installed fink yesterday in my computer at work but i seem to be unable to
properly configure proxy settings here (Macmini with Leopard 10.5.8).
the ProxyHTTP line is right in fink.conf (added via fink configure) but i
still can't install anything:
Could not connect to
Not being able to ping from the Mac suggest it could be some sort of
misconfiguration there.
maybe i shouldn't ask this here as it is a fink forum, but any hint where i
could get help then?
i don't remember ever (mis)configuring anything close to that... i only set
up network configuration in

hello robert,
i never made it work actually. i worked around the problem for a while
connecting to the internet with a 3g modem whenever i needed to install or
update fink, but as i don't have the 3g service anymore i better fix things
once and for all ... :-\
using tcsh, yes.
fink --version
hello,
is there in fink the equivalent of the debian apt-get autoremove command,
to get rid of orphan/obsolete packages?
thx

That would do it. Proxy support got fixed in later revisions of apt,
e.g. the current -1057 .
If you're not able to do cvs or rsync selfupdate through your proxy, we
can still get you an updated apt

hello all,
apparently i can't get fink to work through the proxy at work. i have fink
0.9 on leopard, freshly installed. i had run 'sudo fink configure' and added
the appropriate proxy settings in the format 'http://username:passw...@proxy
:port'.
but when i try the selfupdate i end up getting
the packages, which is a relief.
:)

Fink *should* set those environment variables automatically when doing
network access via curl or wget whenever there's a ProxyHTTP entry in
/sw/etc/fink.conf, i.e., you shouldn't need to set those variables yourself.
Are you sure that your previous error wasn't mirror-related? If you feel
