finish installing (only other needed package was gtk+2-dev), and it runs

I don't know if this helps, but XFree86.org's binary installer didn't
work for me, either (there was an issue with libXplugin). I ended up
removing all traces of my old XFree86 and installing 4.4.0 fr
d the Python Mac SIG for Python and Mac
Python related quesstions.

I was having trouble getting libidn to compile this morning too, but then I self-updated this afternoon again and it worked like a charm.
