I hardly ever use the Flash IDE these days. I program with FlexBuilder and
import images created by the designers. I am wondering, why are some of you
still using the Flash IDE to compile your applications?
What is the big benefit of using the Flash IDE in combination with
ActionScript?

Because I needed to produce a projector and I could not work out how to
get Flex to do that - don't want an AIR app, just an exe.
The projector loads in another SWF compiled in Flex though :)

Open the swf file in flash player, File Create projector

But this can't create a Mac projector on a PC and I am guessing
vice-versa. My aim was to create a PC / Mac CDROM, so I needed both
types, sorry should have said I wanted a .app or whatever it's called.

You don't need to know Flex to use the Flex SDK compiler...
I think the name probably confuses people, because it's both a
Flex and ActionScript compiler (correct me if I'm wrong).
I only program in ActionScript, using Flash Develop and the SDK.
Our compile times went from 1 minute down to 4
How do u compile ur AS2 applications using
flexbuilder?
If u are making flex applications, u compile by
flexbuilder, if u r making flash applications, u use
flash IDE.

A.

Is that your question?

You can create an actionscript project in Flex, see this tutorial:
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/player.php
I'm with Romuald's thoughts. I use three different methods, depending
on the project. Some projects I use Flexbuilder, some I use
FlashDevelop + Flex SDK, and some I use Flash CS3. The reason I use
Flash CS3 is for the sexiness factor - doing sexy stuff in the Flex
world requires more effort in

you can make a pc projector in the mac flash ide - you can do a mac
one on the pc but it needs to be decompressed before it gets burnt to cd

, better for him to
be able to do it without Flash IDE, otherwise he's just stuck.

I use Flash Develop (and formerly Sepy) to write all of my code, but I use
the Flash IDE to create library assets and compile swfs.
A lot of the work that I do in Flash centers around writing code to build
screens or pages created by the designers. I find that, although it's not
perfect, I use

Just a question, what kind of projects are you doing on Linux?
I can't use linux because all the designers I'm working with are working
with the Adobe CS3 (illustrator, and so on), and I'm not able to open their
files
That's okay if you are working in a team of people where everyone is
equal, but if you are at the bottom of the freelance pile and the
designer / client says I want it as vectors you have a choice - either
tell them to stuff it and not get anymore work from them, or say it may
cost extra, but
with the Flex SDK. I use Eclipse + FDT, I don't
know if there's something else for Mac...
