You don't need to know Flex to use the Flex SDK compiler... I think the name probably confuses people, because it's both a Flex and ActionScript compiler (correct me if I'm wrong). I only program in ActionScript, using Flash Develop and the SDK. Our compile times went from 1 minute down to 4 sec
