RE: [flexcoders] Re: Adding AS3 support to 3rd party editors - legal question

2006-08-04 Thread Matt Chotin

I see what youre saying now. Im
not sure that would be the end of the world (the lawyer canceled the meeting so
I wont get to talk to him till next week) but a more traditional
approach would be to get your editor to understand the AS3 source format. Since
we ship the source in the SDK you could just parse that and get all the
information you need. I think understanding the source format is going to be more
flexible than manually entering information from livedocs. Of course the real
thing to do is understand the bytecode format, but we havent documented
that as of yet.

I have asked legal for help in getting an
official answer to What can I use from the SDK if I wanted to write my
own IDE?. It will be a few days before I can answer that, but I can
tell you that the spirit of our EULA is not meant to prevent you from doing
that. So we are not trying to throw up legal roadblocks to you building an
editor. Which is not to say were actively looking for competitors to
start up when were still trying to sell Flex Builder ;-)

I see what you mean, I guess I am just confused on why
it would matter
if someone went through the site and manually typed out all the info
or if they were able to write a script that could do it automatically.
The information is there, why would it matter who/what accesses it?

Also just to clarify, the way I understand it the files would only
need to be generated once; the screen scraping would not be something
the app did as part of its operation.

Thanks,
Ben

  Thanks for the reply, Matt. If this is not ok, what would be
  acceptable methods for accomplishing things like code completion in
  third party editors? Obviously, doing this requires knowledge of the
  structure of all AS3 classes and Livedocs seems like the best/only
  'open' and free to the public source of this information. I really
  don't think any serious developer would consider an editor adequate
  without this functionality.

 I think that you're confusing 2 separate issues. The first is whether
 you can configure an editor to recognize (highlight, complete,
 whatever) ActionScript code using information obtained from publicly
 available documentation. The answer to this, as far as I know, is
 absolutely. The second issue, and the one which I believe that Matt
 has concerns about, is whether or not you can obtain the data you need
 to enable this feature by screen-scraping Adobe documentation. I can
 see potential issues with that. Manually enter the AS3 information
 into your editor and I would bet that you would be fine.

Re: [flexcoders] fundamental logout problem...

2006-08-04 Thread Ralf Bokelberg

In a cairngorm application you could simply clear all the models and all the views would be updated automatically. Another way would be to create a central Object which dispatches Login/Logout events. Every view, which is interested in such an event, can register itself to this object. In case of the Logout event it simply resets its data.

[flexcoders] Using JavaScript with navigateToURL

2006-08-04 Thread moni_singhal
I am trying to convert my existing flex1.5 code to flex20 .
As getURL is replaced by navigateToURL so if in flex 1.5 the code
was like this: getURL(javascript:window.open('
+ UPLOAD_PAGE_URL
+ ?userID= + userID
+ userName= + userName
+ sessionID= + sessionID
+ ,menubar=no,location=no,resizable=yes');void(0);,
_self,
POST);

As now i want to use navigateToURL(),so if i am passing the
urlRequest object to navigateToURL as my first argument and i want
to use javascript to modify the properties of my urlRequest object
then i am not able to do so.
my existing code in flex20 seems like this:

var urlReq:URLRequest=new URLRequest(E:/flex/monika/a.html);
navigateToURL(urlReq,'var x=javascript:window.open
(,test,height=100,width=150,toolbar=no,scrollbars=1,resizable=ye
s);x');

So from this code am not able to resize my html page or control any
other properties of the html page.I dont know how to modify the
properties of that URLRequest(html page here).

If anyone knows ,plz help me out.

Thanks,

Re: [flexcoders] sending parameters from Flex2 to AMFPHP

2006-08-04 Thread Luís Gustavo Sanabio

I prefer to use:

var myPostData: Object = new Object();
myPostData.param1 = 1;

myPostData.param2 = 2;
myPostData.param3 = test;
myPostData.Date = new Date().valueOf().toString();

gateway.call(Projekt.shraniProjekt, new Responder(onResult,onFault), myPostData);

enjoy,
Gustavo

2006/8/2, FineLine [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

You are only sending one single array parameter. You can either read it as one parameter in AMFPHP, as Impudent1 suggests, or you can send it as multiple parameters like:

gateway.call("Service.operation", new Responder(resultFunction, faultFunction), param1, param2, param3 …)

Hi!I'm having some difficulties sending parameters from Flex to AMFPHP.Because flex has to send 2 parameters, AMFPHP always complains I
haven't sent the second argument, never the less the second argumentin in the array.Below is my code:var arrPosredovani:Array = new Array();arrPosredovani[0] = [1,1];
arrPosredovani[1] = [2,2];gateway.call(Projekt.shraniProjekt, new Responder(onResult,onFault), arrPosredovani);I also tried likevar arrPosredovani:Array = [[1,1],[2,2]]
and still AMFPHP complains about not sending the right number ofparameters. If I change my AMFPHP function to allow only one parameterthen passing variables from Flex to AMFPHP works as it should. Also
this function works just fine in browser of AMFPHP.What am I doing wrong?I'm using the latest version of AMFPHP 1.2

[flexcoders] Re: Adding AS3 support to 3rd party editors - legal question

2006-08-04 Thread ben.clinkinbeard
Thanks Matt,

The goal is definitely to have the editor understand the AS3 format,
but in the discussion we had, the problem we saw was the lack of
source for the top-level and flash.* classes. As far as I can tell,
the only source provided with the SDK is the mx.* packages and
classes. Am I missing something?

I don't think the editor's developers (I am not one of them) have any
desire to compete with Flex Builder, they simply want to provide AS3
coding support. As far as I know, they have no plans to integrate MXML
support into the editor.

Thanks again for your replies and I will look forward to any further
clarifications you can provide.

Ben

 I see what you're saying now. I'm not sure that would be the end of the
 world (the lawyer canceled the meeting so I won't get to talk to him

 editor to understand the AS3 source format. Since we ship the source in
 the SDK you could just parse that and get all the information you need.
 I think understanding the source format is going to be more flexible
 than manually entering information from livedocs. Of course the real
 thing to do is understand the bytecode format, but we haven't documented
 that as of yet.

 I have asked legal for help in getting an official answer to What can I
 use from the SDK if I wanted to write my own IDE?. It will be a few
 days before I can answer that, but I can tell you that the spirit of our
 EULA is not meant to prevent you from doing that. So we are not trying
 to throw up legal roadblocks to you building an editor. Which is not to
 say we're actively looking for competitors to start up when we're still
 trying to sell Flex Builder ;-)

 I see what you mean, I guess I am just confused on why it would matter
 if someone went through the site and manually typed out all the info
 or if they were able to write a script that could do it automatically.
 The information is there, why would it matter who/what accesses it?

 Also just to clarify, the way I understand it the files would only
 need to be generated once; the screen scraping would not be something
 the app did as part of its operation.

[flexcoders] UserTransaction on Windows and Linux

2006-08-04 Thread dreuimar
I'm writing an application that's being developed on a Windows machine
and the production server is on Linux. Both are running Tomcat with
the exact same configuration.

I am using FDS and everything works great on both machines until an
updateItem() method is called. On Windows updateItem works fine and
does everything right, but when I copy the Flex files and Java classes
to the Linux box, it fails on the updateItem call and gives me:

[RPC Fault faultString=Unable to access UserTransaction in
DataService. faultCode=Server.Processing faultDetail=null]
at
mx.data::ConcreteDataService/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::dispatchFaultEvent()
at mx.data::CommitResponder/fault()
at mx.rpc::AsyncRequest/fault()
at
::NetConnectionMessageResponder/NetConnectionChannel.as$37:NetConnectionMessageResponder::statusHandler()
at mx.messaging::MessageResponder/status()

Any suggestions on what might be going wrong? I found that for Java
1.4.2 (which Linux had) you need JXM, so rather than doing that I
upgraded the Linux box to JRE 1.5.0 (on Windows it's 1.6 beta).

I thought that by upgrading it should fix it (since I suppose JXM is
included on 1.5+.

Thanks in advance,
Brennan

As I understand, the only requirement for ICQ numbers is to be a number.
Historically, ICQ numbers started from 1 and theoretically can have up to infinity
digits (now the biggest is 10 but the ICQ community still grows).

Heres discussion on it in parallel universe though:

[flexcoders] dynamic gridcolumns

2006-08-04 Thread Shannon Hicks

I'm trying to
implement dynamic datagrid columns, and figured out you need to build an array
of columns, then set that array to the columns property of datagrid. The problem
is when I try to set the itemRenderer I can't figure it out. Here's the code
I've tried that doesn't work:
for (var i:Number=0;iasProducts.length;i++)
{thisColumn.headerText =
asProducts.getItemAt(i).productName;thisColumn.itemRenderer
=new ClassFactory(com.webapper.healthyreliefadmin.view);thisColumn.rendererIsEditor
= true;newColumns[newColumns.length] =
thisColumn;}

I get the error
"Package cannot be used as a value:
com.webapper.healthyreliefadmin.view"

What am I
missing?

We have things setup in our standard build scripts to deploy and
enable the SOAPMonitor by telling the build you want a developer

[flexcoders] UI Design Help

2006-08-04 Thread Rick Root
I'm building an app that will replace a current HTML-based app that
allows users to search our database and then do a file drop of the
results in CSV/Excel/Tab format.

They have the ability to choose which fields to drop, if they want.. so
I've got an HTML format that looks like this, a bunch of categorized
checkboxes.

https://www.it.dev.duke.edu/temp/dropfields_example.html

I figure there has to be a better way to build this kind of form in
Flex, but I really don't have enough knowledge about all the
possibilities...

I'd love to hear some suggestions.

I was thinking about using some kind of tree component - but with
checkboxes that can be selected, not selected, or partially selected (a
node that was partially selected would have some children that were
selected and some that were not selected).

No idea how to do that though :)

Thanks.

Rick

[flexcoders] Flex2 and CFC work on local but not whe uploaded to host

2006-08-04 Thread flycl65
I have a simmple Flex2 app that uses a simple CFC to query the db.
Works great on my local server but when I upload to my host I get an
error.

NetConnection.Call.Failed
http://www.dentalsales.com/flex2gateway/; level = error

If I browse to http://localhost/flex2gateway/ I get 500 No configured
channel has an endpoint path '/flex2gatewaynull'.

but if I do it on my host I get 500 null.

My host is running CF 7.02. Is there something the host has to do to
enable Flex2 to run? Is there something I need to configure to run on
the host?

[flexcoders] Flex 2 DS shared Managed Objects question

2006-08-04 Thread thunderstumpgesatwork
I'm using Data Services with Managed Objects and the Hibernate Assembler.

I have a question regarding updating a shared managed object through
one managed object, and having that update be reflected in another
managed object. Should this work?

I the most simple case, lets say I have a managed object A, that when
fetched has a collection of other managed objects B. If I add a new
managed object B, and save it directly through it's DataService,
shouldn't A refresh its collection of B objects?

In a more complex sense, I have managed objects that are shared
components of several other managed objects. (A's contain a collection
of B's)... when I update a B, do I need to keep track of every A that
has that particular B?

How is this done?

thanks,
Thunder

We have things setup in our standard build scripts to deploy and
enable the SOAPMonitor by telling the build you want a developer
build.  Pretty slick.

[flexcoders] manipulating adanced datagrids...

2006-08-04 Thread Shannon Hicks

Here's the
scenario:
I'm dynamically
adding columns to my datagrid... all the added columns have the same cell
renderer/editor, a checkbox.
I'm dynamically (on
the coldFusion side) adding thecolumns to the query to check/uncheck those
boxes created above.

As the itemRenderer,
how do I know what column I belong to? I've set the dataField value, but I don't
see that anywhere in the debug output.

[flexcoders] WebServices: Declarative vs. Programmatic

2006-08-04 Thread codemonkey666
I am in the process of evaluating Flex for a series of applications
for a large financial services company. We intend to make significant
use of Web Services. I have had trouble using the mx:WebService tag
but not using the WebService API. Basically, the WebService API works
and the tag doesn't. I am sure that I am missing something, being new
to Flex, so I am asking for some guidance.

I carved up the FlexSDK sample called restaurant - I am using Adobe's
web service, so, everyone should be able to copy the following code
and experience the same issue.

In the following, pressing the WebService (No Tag) button
successfully round-trips with the Adobe web service. Pressing
the WebService (Tag) does not. I hope someone can tell me why.

Perhaps you could let them drag and drop fields they want into a List
or something?

 Thanks.

You'll either need to pass the view into the Event, so that your Command's

I tend to prefer the former.

RE: [flexcoders] selectedindex and change event

2006-08-04 Thread Tobias Patton

As far as I know you cant. Change
events are only fired when the selectedIndex is changed by a user action.

My solution to this problem was to attach
a changeWatcher to the selectedIndex. The changeWatchers callback will
be invoked when the value is changed programmatically. Its also invoked
when the change is from a user action, but the event kind is different, so you
can distinguish between the two.

Tobias.

RE: [flexcoders] fundamental logout problem...

2006-08-04 Thread Tobias Patton

You could store all the users data
in a singleton object, like a Cairngorm data model. The data model has Reset()
method that returns all the data to its initial state. The Logout handler could
call dataModel.Reset().

I've built a system that utilizes a login/logout process. The login portion
works great. I realize now that my app is 95% complete, that when logout is
executed, all it really does is change states, clear the user singleton
instance, but what I didn't realize was going to be a challange is how to
globally log them out so that data throughout the app is wiped clean slate, and
when another user logs in, they won't get the previous users data.

I've tried all the initialize,creationComplete,updateComplete,
and oher methods and they don't do the trick.

  mx:Resize  id=one widthFrom=300 widthTo=580 duration=500 /
  mx:Resize   id=two heightFrom=35 heightTo=380 duration=2000/

It can be done with the AS2 Tween class pretty easily. Any thoughts.

[flexcoders] toArray, Array and ArrayCollection Changes from beta 3

2006-08-04 Thread Torey Maerz
It seems like there are some changes from beta 3 to release in how
Arrays are wrapped or something that is causing me problems.

I used to be able to use ArrayUtil.toArray() to make sure that my
HTTPService results were in a format which I could loop not I cannot.
Can anyone give a good solution and answer as to why this is the case?

Given this line:
var cols:Array = ArrayUtil.toArray(columns.lastResult.Columns.Column);

1) If I have more than one item returned then cols is an Array with one
ArrayCollection that has all of the Column items.

2) If I have only one item returned then cols is an Array with one
Column item.

What is the best code to use that works similar to beta 3? I really
like the toArray function in the past because I did not have to worry
about if my result contained one or more items. But it seems that I
have lost this in the release version..yes???

Thanks for the help!

hmm, that sounds like a huge can of works there, eh? :)in the docs we haveselectedIndex
property

selectedIndex:int[read-write]
  The index in the data provider of the selected item.

  The default value is -1 (no selected item).
  This property can be used as the source for data binding.Seems I was reading this incorrectly. This says that changes on selectedIndex are broadcast out, but doesn't say that changing the value broadcasts anything.

Is there something I need to configure to run on
the host?

 As the itemRenderer, how do I know what column I belong to? I've set the
 dataField value, but I don't see that anywhere in the debug output.

[flexcoders] Need a little help with some as.

2006-08-04 Thread Jeremy Rottman
I am using hbox's to display various information in my app. I have two
sides to any given file. Seller on one side and Buyer on the other. On
my closing screen, I have 3 sets of these hbox's. Thier visibility is
hidden. I am using a for loop to over over each of the sides that I
return from my cfc.

Here is my code. THe SELLER SIDE section works perfectly fine. But if
I only have one buyer, the app does not work. It does not set the
vislibity of the the hbox, does not change the percentHeight of the
canvas, and does not populate the text inputs.

Can someone give me a bit of insight on what I might be doing wrong?

 I have a simmple Flex2 app that uses a simple CFC to query the db.
 Works great on my local server but when I upload to my host I get an
 error.

 NetConnection.Call.Failed

 If I browse to http://localhost/flex2gateway/ I get 500 No configured

 but if I do it on my host I get 500 null.

 My host is running CF 7.02. Is there something the host has to do to
 enable Flex2 to run? Is there something I need to configure to run on
 the host?

RE: [flexcoders] UserTransaction on Windows and Linux

2006-08-04 Thread Jeff Vroom

FDS requires that your app server have an
implementation of JTA the javax.transaction.UserTransaction class. Tomcat
does not come with one out of the box but you can download the open source
implementation.

Heres the link with the instructions
for installing that:

http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/2/install.html#tomcat

Not sure why this is different between
linux and windows but if you notice any problems in the instructions/docs let
us know.

UserTransaction on Windows and Linux

I'm writing an application that's being developed on a
Windows machine
and the production server is on Linux.

[RPC Fault faultString=Unable to access UserTransaction in
DataService. faultCode=Server.Processing
faultDetail=null]
at
mx.data::ConcreteDataService/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::dispatchFaultEvent()

at mx.rpc::AsyncRequest/fault()
at
::NetConnectionMessageResponder/NetConnectionChannel.as$37:NetConnectionMessageResponder::statusHandler()
at mx.messaging::MessageResponder/status()

Thanks in advance,
Brennan

[flexcoders] Variable references

2006-08-04 Thread Rick Root
I've got an interesting issue which I'm sure real programmers understand
but I don't know quite how to describe.

Essentially, I've got a flex component that contains, among other
things, an XMLList component with some data in it.

I have assigned that as the data provider for a tree item, and I've
enabled drag and drop so I can drag items from one tree to the other.

I also have a reset button that I want to restore the source tree to
its original state.

So on my TitleWindow (the main component) I have

creationComplete=treeDataInitial=treeData;

And my reset button does this:

private function resetFieldLists():void
{
treeData = treeDataInit;
treeSelectedFields.dataProvider = [];
}

Unfortunately, treeDataInit seems to be linked to treeData, because it
always contains the same content as treeData

How to I avoid this? How do I make a copy of an object in Flex 2 so
that it creates an entirely new object, not just a refernce to the
original object?

Rick

Re: [flexcoders] Re: How do I reset itemRenderer inside DataGrid when dataProvider is updated?

2006-08-04 Thread Brendan Meutzner

Not sure if this was 100% the right way to accomplish what i needed, but it worked for me...I've got a DataGrid with an itemRenderer instance that colors the background of my rows differently based on selection order... yada yada...
Anyway, came across this problem when I wanted to clear my selections... setting the selectedIndex = -1 worked for actually removing the selections, but my itemRenderer instance wasn't updating the background color until it was redrawn through scrolling, etc...
So I'm using Cairngorm and figured... why not... so I set an event listener inside my renderer as follows:CairngormEventDispatcher.getInstance().addEventListener(metricSelectionChange, setSelectionStyle);
and just dispatched that event outside when my data changed, i wanted to clear selections, whatever... voila... updated renderer...BrendanOn 7/20/06,

I suppose I understand the event firing due to the redraw, it just
seems like a 'dataChange' event should only fire when, you know, data

Jesse, going to those lengths seems like a bit of overkill when all

[flexcoders] Validator Problems - Not clearing when disabled

2006-08-04 Thread Chad Sherwood
I'm using flex 2.0 and multiple validators in such a manner that I
enable/disable them depending on whether some text has been placed
in specific textInput controls. However, *most* of the time, the
validators are disabled but the screen still reflects that they are
operating (ie, the red boxes around the previously mentioned
textboxes). Seems like a bug to me. It has happened on the Number
Validator, the String validator to my knowledge, maybe more of
them.

Here's my mxml. I have 3 validators, one for each of the text
fields. When the user has changed the data in a textinput, I call a
function that re-evaluates all the validators to make sure they
should be enabled/disabled. I have verified that they are disabled
AND not required, but the screen still continues to show them as red
boxes. Any ideas on this problem would be welcome :)

Thanks!

Chad

Re: [flexcoders] Styles editor

2006-08-04 Thread Peter Baird
Title: Re: [flexcoders] Styles editor

Yes, it does link to the same URL, and yes it is the release version.

The link in the Flex Builder Start Page is http://www.adobe.com/go/flex_styles_explorer_app and this is actually a redirect link that will always work.

You can read more about the latest version at http://weblogs.macromedia.com/mc/archives/2006/07/run_the_flex_st.cfm#more and download a version to run locally as well.

Re: [flexcoders] FYI on AJAX Security Problems

2006-08-04 Thread The Irrelevant Elephant
Not a bad article, but a lot of what is said is not specific to AJAX,
and a lot of it can also be applied to Flash. I think the title is
misleading too, since it's not AJAX that is introducing vulnerabilities,
but programmers using it's methodologies. It would be hard to use this
article as ammunition. It would perhaps have been better served if it
had been written with an emphasis environment in which AJAX runs (e.g.
in browsers) that does not prevent bad things from happening (whereas
Flash has a sandbox that does).

So really all I took from this article that I could use - and actually
it's probably the most important point - is that aside from anything
else, the reason Flash is better than AJAX in this respect is because
(a) a Flash application is an element contained in a browser and not
tied to (in fact, fairly ignorant of) the browser itself and (b) it has
a restrictive sandbox (to the point that we developers often complain).

Not that I'm disagreeing with the article nescessarily. I agree that
AJAX is a technology that is moving faster than it's ability to protect
itself.  Just adding my 2p.

[flexcoders] Is this a bug, or is it just me?

2006-08-04 Thread Rick Root
When a tree has only one item, the dataProvider is empty when dumped to
a string.

Example:

https://www.it.dev.duke.edu/temp/flex/bin/Test.html

Drag one of the parent items over and click Show List Items, and the
textarea is populated with all of the nodes in the data provider.

Now hit Reset Lists.. then drag only one child item and then click
Show List Items again. No results. empty.

Drag another child item over... repeat. Both child items now appear in
the textarea.

Is this a bug, or something I'm doing wrong?

I've enabled View Source on this app so you can see for yourself.

RE: [flexcoders] filter operator

2006-08-04 Thread Gordon Smith

If '-thisObject' and 'arguments' are arguments you are
passing to a method named 'handler', then you shouldn't have a dot before the
left parenthesis in the method call.

foo.(condition) is the E4X notation
for predicate filtering of an XML or XMLList instance. It lets you pick out
elements or attributes that meet a condition you specify using a Boolean
_expression_, as in

 employees.employee.(@ssn
== 123-45-6789)

This is why the error message is complaining that you are
using the filter operator on 'handler', which is a Function, not an
XML or XMLList instance.

Error that is throwed when trying to do something like

overloadHandler.handler.(_thisObject, arguments);

looks like TypeError: Error #1123: Filter operator not supported on type
builtin.as$0.MethodClosure .

Strange thing is that there is nothing about this filter operator
in the help system. Except for the Error code in the list of errors.
Is this a joke? :-)

[flexcoders] Help with SharedObject please!

2006-08-04 Thread wayneposner
Howdy all...

I trying to use a SharedObject to keep user entered search strings in
a drop-down box like the Google IE Toolbar. This works fine when I'm
running the app locally, but as soon as I move it to a server and
access it via a URL, it stops working.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I haven't changed any
compiler options except the default background color.

Thanks!
Wayne

RE: [flexcoders] How to get the property names from Actionscript object like java reflection

2006-08-04 Thread Gordon Smith

You can use the function
flash.utils.describeType(instance) to find out the public property and method
names in an instance. It will also tell you the name of the instance's class. If
the class name is all you need, flash.utils.getQualifiedClassName() is much
faster than describeType().

describeType returns an XML instance, so
you should learn how to use the E4X features of ActionScript 3 to extract the
property names.

Once you know a property name, you can then
use instance[propName] to get the value of a property in the instance.

[flexcoders] Confused if I should use Classes or Packages?? (Cairngorm specific question)

2006-08-04 Thread Mike Anderson
Hello All,

In scouring all my Cairngorm examples, I am seeing 2 distinct methods of
creating the Delegates (under com.adobe.cairngorm.business).

One method uses a Class - like so:

---
import com.adobe.cairngorm.business.Responder;
import com.adobe.cairngorm.business.ServiceLocator;
import mx.utils.Delegate;

class com.adobe.cairngorm.samples.store.business.CreditCardDelegate
{
   private var responder : Responder;
   private var service : Object;

   public function CreditCardDelegate( responder : Responder )
   {
  this.service = ServiceLocator.getInstance().getService(
creditCardService );
  this.responder = responder;
   }
}
---

The other method uses a Package - like so:

---
package com.adobe.cairngorm.samples.store.business
{
import com.adobe.cairngorm.business.Responder;
import com.adobe.cairngorm.business.ServiceLocator;

public class CreditCardDelegate
{
private var responder : Responder;
private var service : Object;

public function CreditCardDelegate( responder :
Responder )
{
this.service =
ServiceLocator.getInstance().getService( creditCardService );
this.responder = responder;
}
}
}
---

Could anybody indicate whether I should use one or the other? And if
there is a definite answer, why I should do it a particular way?

Was this something that changed with newer version of Cairngorm?

Thanks in advance for all your help,

Mike
