svg classes belong to the batik project. They should be in batik.jar, which
should be included with the fop distribution in the lib subdirectory of the
fop root.

I always run into these error message when the parser recognizes an error in
your xsl-file.
Try running xalan first to convert your xml into fo, you might see the
complete error message there.

(3000x2000 pixels) and should be scaled down to about 2x1 cm.
I already tried the trick using a block-container of suitable size, but
still there is no error and no image coming up. Any suggestions?
