very interesting. If you're experiencing that FOP runs faster on a
NT-machine than on a UNIX machine then we are experiencing the same here.
The same page on my NT machine takes 1 sec whereas on the UNIX machine it
takes 10 seconds.
So far I assumed it's just a load problem of this
You need to take the decimal unicode encoding. Try • for a bullet. Check
http://www.hclrss.demon.co.uk/unicode/basic_latin.html for other codes.

You can use the FOP-postscript renderer. I've never done that, but I know there
is this feature:
driver.setRenderer(driver.RENDER_PS);

I had this idea as well, but only FO knows which if it is formatting the
first or the other pages.
