In pdf it must specify a font otherwise it is an error. I presume you
mean in FOP. If there is no font specified in the fo then it will
default to "sans-serif" which is aka "Helvetica".

Please do that.Strange thing is I get embedded fonts to work very well.I can print files with multiple embedded fonts both standard ones and custom made ones. Can you please send me a pdf with images you have created with FOP that worksin your printers too. regards,Claes

Re: Big problem with printing from adobe Reader 4

i put the pdf files in the printerqueue, then i rip it completely...

i don't open it with adobe because adobe isn't installed on the unix
machine...

it doest it all by itself...

i'll try to scan a page in how it came out with embedded fonts... and send
it to you ok?

now i'm converting all the fonts to helvetica (what works good and looks a
bit like arial...)

the big difference is the size of the pdf ,now they are 13 kb, and with the
embedded fonts they were about 100 kb :D so there is something good about
it...

Welcome to my heaven...

Seriously I brought up this problem some months ago (still no viable
solution),
the problem is your pictures.
Those printer RIPs dont accept the XObject image type, embedded fonts are
no problem.

The only solution so far is to use Acrobat Readers -toPDF switch
(commandline)
and then run the the resulting PS-file through distiller, then it will
print.
Certainly not a good solution but the only one Ive come up with so far.

If you get your pdf's with images printed on thoose BIG printers please
tell
me.

i've had a similar problem before and it was font related. check to see
what fonts you've specified in the document, and what fonts acrobat
thinks that it is using. usually some type 1/truetype mix up.

i solved it but using the right type 1 fonts.

phil

Hi Jochen,

Do you have any more information, won't print isn't very descriptive.
It is possible there is an error in the pdf markup (like a graphic
instruction inside text section) that is relatively minor but the
printer cannot handle the resulting postscript.
The different versions of acrobat are seem to handle things differently
at times.

Sorry I can't help. Maybe you could try to find out what the
postscript/pdf error is?
