 It's a known Xalan bug.

Darn, I confused it with the Xalan 2.0 bug which printed a +N

This is the key to solving the problem. Looks like you have defined a table

ERROR -2

2004-09-23 Thread Mark Donnelly
Not sure if this is a posting to the FOP users group or not.

Here goes anyway ...

Ive just started using Xalan and FOP to attempt creation of pdf documents.
When running FOP I get the following:

[INFO] Using org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser as SAX2 Parser
[INFO] FOP 0.20.5
[INFO] Using org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser as SAX2 Parser
[INFO] building formatting object tree
[INFO] setting up fonts
[INFO] [1]
[ERROR] -2

Im not getting any output file and cant find the error code -2 on the FAQ.
Just wondering what this means or if there is an error code listing?

additional error information.

If you're running from Java make sure that DEBUG log level is enabled.

I could go back through my stylesheet and remove

clue for figuring out what to fix. Thanks - MOD

error message (a stacktrace I hope). Maybe that helps.

Not much help - I don't know where an array index like

Re: What Does [ERROR] -2 Mean

2003-06-20 Thread Jeremias Maerki
Looking at the code I think it could be some problem with cell spanning,
a negative number where it should be positive, for example. If that
doesn't help comment out portions of your FO or stylesheet to circle in
the problem location. Check the numbers of columns defined and used in
your tables.

Hi Suse,

why do you use block-container in table-cells ?
If you define your table with 3 table-columns and
each of your table-cells with borders like you defined for your block-containers
i think you have the same effect you want to have.
Your structure is a little bit of strange.

the hint Markus Müller gave ( You should put your static text inside
fo:block/fo:block tags. )
seems to me not so bad.
You have text in your flow which is not surrounded by a block, so i don't think
that this text will be ever visible, even if you can create your pdf.

The text passage:

is a child of a table-row and this is definitly not allowed in fop.

greets,

Hi mark,

I've left out the static text in my flow and it didn't work. I want to
create a form with nested fields. It would be very complicated if I tried
this only with table-cells. So I decided to use containers. Yesterday I
solved my layout with fixed blocks and containers (position based) on my
page. But if this is efficient... every time you want to change your layout
you have to change all positions in your layout.
I can't really get along with these tables ;-(

Hello,

I noticed that you are using table-layout-auto, is this supported? You also
have data like crysat test and 1 of 1 Non conformance report both
outside the bounds of a table-cell but within table row?

I'm not an expert so i don't really know, but i'd change your table to
include a fixed number of columns and use the proportional widths properties
and also put all your data in your table within a table cell.

Long tables and long page sequences are known to
 increase the memory
 requierments of FOP.
error has nothing to do with xml. Xsl could be used
 to create additionnal
page sequences. List Archive shows you how.

Re: Again out of Memory Error -2

2002-06-05 Thread Cyril Rognon
Ok I'll try to answer both part 1 and 2 here :
as for the JVM memory parameter with servlet engines : Your servlet engine
is executed in a JVM that must allow you to set memory parameters. I don't
know about every ServletEngine or ApplicationServers but you can do this
with Tomcat or Websphere so I guess it exists everywhere.

As for multiple page sequences, it is simply a fact that the current FOP
implementation seems to keep a whole page sequence in memory before it
writes it down. So the biggest bage sequence you have, the more heap size
you need.

Therefore it can be helpfull to create separate page sequence anytime you
can. In your case, it is the worst situation : one long table. You have to
start and stop the table each time you want to change page-sequence. Some
guy on the list had the same situation to deal with. He manage to have an
average number of x row per pages. Then he twisted his XSLT stylesheet to
take x rowData (detail element in your case) to build one page sequence
containing one table with the x rows and so on.

He has ended with a 97 page-sequence document. This may be a little extreme
but it works. The archive pointer I gave you does this trick.

In many case, you have to deal with many tables wich are not always 100
pages long then you can place page-sequences every time you know you can
have a page break.

I hope this helps.
Cyril

Hi Cyril,
  Thanks a lot for replying.
I'm using Tomcat 3.2,so I think there shd be
someway to imporve JVM heap size.
Now I understood the multiple page sequence
advantage.I tried to change my to have XSLT to print
20 rows at a time,still coding/re-coding my XSLT to
get a good result and not yet completed.
Since this is a one-off job,I converted my large XML
data to HTML,then I converted HTML to PDF using Adobe
distiller. So the task is done, but I'm half baked now
with my XSLT code.
Thanks a lot for replying me at right time.

Balaji
