With the server version of Grafikhuset Publi PDF
(http://www.grafikhuset.net/publipdf/) it's possible to set up purpose-specific
queues on a server. In that case Publi PDF would be configured to run
unattended queues and the Publi PDF kernel be run as a true Windows NT Service.

As I see it: With the new Adobe Suite-concept you will effectively be able to
break the single-sourcing concept if you want, i.e. apply local changes as need
be for last minute corrections. However, when working disciplined as of the
single-sourcing concept itself, I think the suite-concept
as you like. Some can
be used to satisfy color conversion needs, others for stamping/watermarking
needs, and again others for plain PDF creation.

The Grafikhuset Publi PDF software can do it even with EPS passthrough (incl.
placed PDF).
Set-up one Publi PDF queue with one Color Map and one Distiller JobOptions file
attached, and another queue with another Color Map/JobOptions set.
Actually, you can set-up as many purpose-specific queues
such
files in this job :-(

However, I find it completely unacceptable that Adobe release a product that is
NOT consistently tested for such an important thing as PDF creation of book
files. THAT is terrifying and should NEVER happen again!

As long as Framemaker 8.0 cannot create a decent PDF without turning on the
Tagged PDF option I'd withhold my horses.
Of course, the new Unicode support is very attractive, and really should have
been there for ages now, but as long as book cannot be turned into PDF format

I don't know of many non-Quark applications that generally can load newer
QXD-files than those saved in QuarkXpress 4.1 format.
However, QuarkXpress versions newer than 4.1 can save backwards (usually
without significant losses). Hence, if you really think conversion to FM format

used 7.2 too much yet, but I have never seen ths with any version up to 7.1,
but I don't suspect that Adobe has implemented/released such a stupid
naming-bug with 7.2.

I've just come across this topic and saw the comment from Dov Isaacs, who
kindly provided a link to our Grafikhuset Publi PDF software, the successor to
the relatively aged, but quite popular Colour Chameleon software.
I have to add to Dovs comment that Grafikhuset Publi PDF have
/international/technology/whitepapers_pdfstuff_workingwithpdf.htm).
Finally, I have to add that Grafikhuset provide a 30-day live *client* edition
for download (http://www.grafikhuset.net/PubliPDF/download.htm). Feel free to
use and test it in sharp production for as long as it lives.
