version of Adobe FrameMaker 8 is not supported on Windows 2000. This is
noted in small print in the system requirements - my bad! Although I

I'm attempting to download and install the free trial version of
Framemaker 8 from the Adobe website. It downloads fine but during the
install process I am asked for a serial number. I don't have one since
this is a trial version. The Adobe support person I contacted first

trial. I have also noted the same problem recently with a couple other Adobe
applications. I suspect (yet cannot prove) the problem happens with Adobe's new
serial number dialog box where you select to add a serial
You definitely don't need to uninstall FM7 to install the FM8 trial.
In the dialog that asks for the serial number *should* be an option to
choose the 30 Day Trial which doesn't need a serial number. It's right
below the serial number fields .. run it again and see if you missed it.

Regarding what's compatible - you can keep multiple _different_
releases of FM installed without conflicts. For example, FM 4, 5,
5.56, 6.x, and 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, and 8.0, are sufficiently different to
work independently. Each
