well as a fraction structure, so it was rather high and extended
beyond the top of the parentheses.
The font sizes are just right elsewhere, so I cannot change them -
font size changes are global (right?).
There was also an Epsilon with a bracket. There were only 2 variables in
the bracket stacked on top of each other, and they, too, extended over the

Hi Karen,

I tried to build an equation based on your description.
Maybe I got the point with my third example in the file:

They behave differently (see attached file).

It is known that the automatic formatting capabilities of FM are not

Experiences with MIF2GO and Webworks Pro

2006-09-11 Thread Joe Malin
Hi!

From time to time I hear rumblings about having an HTML version of my
documentation, which I currently have in unstructured Frame. In an
effort to wow my manager and spare myself sudden, shocking, and
twitch-inducing stress, I'm being *proactive* about this. My long-term
goal (once I get all these darn alligators off my ass) is to use DITA.
In the short term, I'm investigating ways to convert FM to HTML.

WebWorks Standard doesn't seem to do enough; for example, I can't set up
macros for handling tables and character formats. WebWorks Pro handles
the stuff I want, but the price tag would go over like a dirigible made
of depleted uranium. I don't know much about MIF2GO, but I have heard
good things about it. I am going to look at the demo version; meanwhile,
I eagerly(?) await your experiences, opinions, and general rants and
raves about either or both of these products.

I have tried using the conversion tool in FM itself, but the
documentation for it is, shall we say, a bit sparse...

Cross References in Structured FrameMaker

2006-09-11 Thread Pallavi Nagesha
Hi

I am trying to convert a FrameMaker file to Structured FrameMaker file. What
I am seeing is that the sentences following a cross reference in a paragraph
are marked as invalid. I am using a CrossReference element for the cross
reference instance and a normal cross reference style. For example, in this
paragraph if the word Structured was a cross reference, then the rest of the
sentence following the word (from was) becomes invalid unless I put it in a
new paragraph. Can some one tell me what is it that I am doing wrong and how I
can fix it?

  Thanks
  Pallavi

TOC wrap

2006-09-11 Thread Linda G. Gallagher
Framers,

I know we've discussed this before, but I can't figure out how to search the
archive and don't have time to look at the subjects for each month in the
archive.

I have a TOC for a 6 x 9 book with some very long chapter titles. I'm not
the author, so I can't just shorten the titles. I've already made the font a
little smaller, but the really long titles just won't fit on one line.

How can I get the titles to wrap and still have the page numbers align? My
reference page for the problem titles looks like this (in part):

Appendix $chapnum $paratext $pagenum (tabs set between text
items)
Chapter $chapnum $paratext $pagenum

Thanks!

TOC wrap

2006-09-11 Thread Fred Ridder
You need to use one or more extra tabs between the last textual
building block and the <$pagenum> building block in the prototype
TOC entries. FrameMaker's tabs are absolute on a per-line basis.
The first tab symbol on a line aligns text to the first tab stop *only*.
If the tab stop is to the left of the tab symbol, everything behaves
as if the tab doesn't exist. If you have defined two tab stops in your
TOC paragraph formats, you need to have tw tab characters in the
wrapped line to get the page number to align to the 2nd tab stop,
so you must have two tab characters before the <$pagenum>
building block. If you have three tab stops per line, you'd need
three tabs before the <$pagenum>, and so on.

My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel.
