I have had the same problem often in the past, and one of the annoying things
about the Variabled pod is that you cannot easily see whether or not a variable
is actually used. The suggestions done so far on this list did not impress me

You're much more likely to get a helpful response if you begin with:
"It didn't work. I got the following error message: ..."

Hi Gillian,
please test the feature: 'Formats' of TOOLBOX for FrameM
I inherited this project and it'll take me a while to figure out what
the correct variables are. In the meantime, I need to start updating
it for the next release, and I have to avoid accidentally causing
errors by overwriting inconsistently used variables.
I have SnagIt so that's an option.

This could work as a compare as well if you save the original file before
the import and then do a file compare with the resulting file after import.
Any changed variables would then be flagged so you could revert or otherwise
alter them.

I think he wants to compare first, before changing. This is another
situation where scanning the file for the variable definitions via script is
fairly easy.
Powershell is slow but would work on Windows to scan the two mifs and spit
out what each variable is defined as.

Lots of discussion of this on the forums - the key thing is that you have to
make sure that you don't modify the FM doc after creating the review PDF,
otherwise you can't import their comments back into FM.

My understanding is that FM9 had some issues dealing with Win7. Upgrading is
the solution, but in the meantime, you could try turning off the "aero"
interface and see if that improves your FM issue.

Hi Kristy,
I have found Structured FM hard to tame in this way too. I have found that
making Format Change Lists in the EDD itself and have the relevant element
call the particular format from there never fails.
Haven't tried this extensively in FM10, but it worked like a charm in 7.2.
