Just to update my question from yesterday: I was contacted by Vikram from Adobe Customer support who had me verify that I'd saved the .zip and extracted all files locally. (Turns out I'd double-clicked the .exe from within my WinZip window.) When I followed his suggestion, everything worked as it

Are you actually clicking the Autonumber Format box _twice_ to turn it off? Click it once and it changes to a solid blue box, which is As Is (which won't change autonumbering on existing paragraphs). You have to click the box a second time to fully clear it and turn off autonumbering for the
