Printing PDF's again
Thanks, all: Especially D. Doornbos. Since "undiscovered resource" was on pg. 85 (84 being last posted by Distiller,) I deleted it and was able to print. Subsequently, I deleted each paragraph and the one illustration in turn, "saving as" on the fly. Finally, one paragraph's absence triggered a successful PDF. After saving the chapter as an MIF, then trying to clip the paragraph in from there, (no go,) I simply re-entered everything. Small paragraph, couple of cross references. Bang, Distiller went all the way to the final page. Granted this is a process which ought to become automatic. But the advice lubricated it. Much gratitude, ~ Don Spencer
Distiller Printing Error
Hi, Everyone! Been away for awhile, since my work on my door fixing book was complete, and I had successfully created two different PDF versions with no glitches. But alas, I have revised a certain section and attempted to create new PDF's with failed results. During PDF generation, as Distiller works diligently through the pages, it suddenly comes upon pg. 84 and types the message: %%[ Error: undefinedresource; OffendingCommand: findresource ]%%. Following this, it flushes the project and quits. Subtracting my TOC preface pages (which are Roman Numerals) I judge the offending page to be text #59. There are no unresolved cross references or, so far as I can see, dangling data anywhere on the pages on either side of the offending page. And, so far as I know, there is no way to search for an undefined resource. What is most baffling is that this problem occurs in a part of the book that was untouched by the revisions. Granted, I have migrated to a new computer before attempting this revision. But so far as I know, all the files from the previous subdirectories have been brought into the new hard drive. The one illustration on the page is referred from the correct source, and all markers and cross refs seem properly placed and functioning. Needless to say I'm baffled by this and extremely frustrated. Suddenly the self-publisher can't self-publish. Any suggestions from any of you brilliant folks would be humbly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. ~ Don Spencer ___ You are currently subscribed to Framers as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send list messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com Send administrative questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit http://www.frameusers.com/ for more resources and info.

Where's the archive?
Folks: I'll soon go back to my day job and won't be able to sort through 30 e-mails from all you wonderful chaps every day of the week. During such times I must put myself off the frameusers list. *But I don't want to miss anything!* A while back I discovered the archives on the website. But subsequently, I haven't been able to access them. I get some page error. When I shunt the address, I get sent to some Tech Writers commercial web site. Are the archives still up and available? Do I need to be logged into my editing status to access them? Any hints would generate my undying gratitude.

Sorry folks, don't need any hints. Found the archives in the strangest of places. First one goes to ones Account Homepage (which is unadorned in my case) and on the left are a series of link options. Click on Modify your list subscription and there at the top is the link. PDF FrameMaker Page Numbers
Okay, guys, Seems to me, somebody just covered this topic less than a week ago. So I looked all over my hard drive, in my e-mails and save-as text files and couldn't find it anywhere. Sorry. *What does one do to get the page numbers in a PDF to match those in the FrameMaker document? * Thanks in advance and sorry once more. ~ Don Spencer P.S. if anybody has the recently mailed response to this, just reply it back to me and thank you. ___ You are currently subscribed to Framers as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send list messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com Send administrative questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit http://www.frameusers.com/ for more resources and info.
Unavailable font
Christine: I've had the same problem. Best as I can recall, it popped up when trying to "Save as PDF" when my HP deskjet was listed as the default printer. However, in my case, FM did no automatic switching. When I saved the PDF nothing showed up, despite the distiller going through its thing. I can only successfully save a PDF when the Adobe PDF printer is the default. ~ Don Spencer

Printing Thumb Tabs
Hi, folks: With the help of several stalwart frameusers, I successfully created thumb tabs along the edge of a version of my fixit book. However, my inkjet printer won't print close enough to the edge for the tabs to bleed. It will create the tabs with the text which can be viewed by flipping through the book sideways, but they won't show when the book is closed. And I know that laser printers require even larger blank margins than inkjets. So, perhaps this option shouldn't be offered to the on-line customer without a warning. Or perhaps the tabs should be reformatted to represent what can be realistically printed. Pity. I have a vague recollection that, in the recent days when I was ferreting out the tab formatting problem, someone wrote about the printing difficulties of bleeding tabs, suggesting larger paper and cutting it afterwards. But I can't find that e-mail. Furthermore, this doesn't seem practical when one considers that most folks can only print on longer (14), not wider paper. Perhaps bleeding tabs can only be handled by professional printers and therefore included only in a hard bound version, not a print at home PDF. True or false? Any suggestions? Bleeding Thumb Tabs
Hi, folks: Has anyone among you used Brad Anderson's Bleeding Thumb Tabs white paper? I've been struggling with it for days and need some help. To begin with, I have no idea what a placeholder or anchor frame tag is. Just a body text tag with a different name? I've tried to do my homework on this and have come up empty. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, when I create the anchored frame at the end of the long, narrow text frame, and choose to anchor it at insertion point with the cursor blinking within the skinny frame, the new frame sticks to the top of the text frame and extends downward, rather that sticking to the top of the frame and extending upward as shown in Brad's illustrations. Thereby, I cannot add the running header into the long text box because the cursor position is hidden by the new black anchored frame. Plus, when rotated, the dark anchored box does not take up the correct position on the edge of the page. I've tried Brad directly on this, but assume he's currently overwhelmed. So I'm presenting my plight to the group. Am running on FM 7.2. And am creating the thumb tabs in a blank document with the intention of pasting them into the master pages of an already completed book. Thanks in advance for any and all.

Where's Framescript?
Folks: As I head back into heavy FrameMaker use to attach another project, I've decided to check out Framescript in order to add macro creation ability, if nothing else, to my publishing capabilities. But lo and behold, my attempts to go to www.framescript.com has popped up no more than the old this page cannot be displayed message. What gives? Is this temporary? Is it just me? Internal Xref in IDX
Dear Framer Folks: Has anybody ever used the <$nopage> index variable? It's a good thing and a bad thing. When put into an index ref it will generate whatever text you designate, usually "see also . . . " This saves unnecessary duplication of entries, e.g. "Utility knife/Knife, utility." BUT the actual link that's created links back to wherever the marker resides within the book text. This effect would be confusing for digital readers. They would want to go to that section of the Index referred to in the entry text. Do any of you sharing mentors have some sort of solution to this glitch? Grateful in advance, ~ Don Spencer
Hold the Presses: PDF Successful
Folks: Sorry for the knee jerk request earlier about my PDF generation problem. Seems all I had to do was designate the Adobe PDF driver as the default printer, and whammo, 190 pages generated in 35 seconds. And a darned, good looking PDF book it is, too, if I do say so myself. Anybody interested in how to solve their residential door problems, e-mail me for a free copy of DoorTrix.PDF. Thanks for all your help. ~ Don Spencer
Keeping fractions together
Hello: How do I keep fractions and mixed numbers written in standard slash and dash, e.g. 1/16" or 2-3/8", together when they wind up at the end of a line? I'm aware of fraction fonts, but am hoping there's some way to add them to the personal dictionary or otherwise get them on a spelling list without changing the style in which they are typed. Any help would be appreciated. ~ Don Spencer
