At 11:00 AM 3/21/2015, you wrote: I assume you are referring to commercial printing, where either CMYK process colors or similar spot colors are used. Well, no, actually. I do very little color work and am woefully ignorant on all things color. So far, the color photos and occasional color artwork that my clients give me print just fine commercially and output just fine to PDF without my knowing anything about color. My clients mainly use line drawings. I've had really good luck importing the Illustrator vector artwork directly by reference into my FM docs. For the past 20 years, I've converted all my artwork to .eps first, but now that Framemaker gets along with Illustrator, I can skip that entire step. And it is very convenient being able to double-click the imported file to open it, revise it in Illustrator, and save it right back out. Fei Min said: > but the TIFF figures were all fuzzy and the PNG ones weren't This _may_ be due to the fact that your screen capture program that outputs the TIFF does not place a good "thumb-nail" inside the file. The actual printed output may be just fine, but displays (particularly when editing in FrameMaker) would not look good at all. My general observations: 1. JPG is fine for pictures, but terrible for graphics and line-art. Don't edit and save a JPG (multiple generations) and expect it to maintain quality each time you save! 2. PNG is fine for line-art and graphics - particularly when viewed on-screen. Loss-less and can also be used for pictures too. Since most of my "images" are drawings and business graphics, PNG suits me best. Z ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. Using SVGs in Frame works fine in all versions, except that in FM9 through FM11 and all but the latest version of FM12, you couldn't search for text in the graphic. The latest patch for FM12 has finally fixed the conversion, which has made my engineers very happy. Fei Min: I do exactly the same thing, using Visio to PDF and PNGs. But I'm going to have a good look at the article that was sent and see if I can improve upon things (both in image quality and PDF size). I'm also going to try the Visio to SVG option. I know I tried SVGs years ago, but there was a problem - although I can't remember the details.
