AFAIK it’s the same for both – the “headless” version is just a crippled
version of the full Acrobat.

Hi,
When I create a book of books with FrameMaker 11 and make a PDF from the
main book, none of the generated files from each sub-book appear in the PDF.
Is this a known issue? Anyone else have experience with this?

And, just testing it, but Adobe Acrobat was not able to find text inside a
graphic, which was a big reason why we upgraded. I'll have to look into
that, but I bet you're right, Robert. I bet that's the cause.

Sorry Rick, I do book of books, but my sub-books don't have any generated files
in them, so I can't tell you one way or the other.

FM won't auto-adjust table columns in any useful way. The only way I
know of is to write a script or plugin to analyze the contents of the
cells and do the width adjustment based on some predefined logic (widest
graphic, or amount of text, etc.).
Would love to hear I'm wrong ..

Shoot, you're right. Adobe finally fixed the SVG generation into PDF so
that the SVG graphics are searchable again. Or so they say, I haven't
actually tried to search for anything.

Well, on the minus side, regenerating those files and trying all the tips
y'all have so kindly provided has not reduced the file size appreciably.
On the plus side, I've discovered that it is, in fact, possible to put the

If that happened to me, I'd still want to know where the bloat was
coming from. PDFs larger than 10MB still present problems for me on

Are of the image compression options different?

Nope. All the images are SVGs that are copied into the file (yes, I know,
but we're kinda stuck with that as part of the process).

We've an internal perl script that sets up tables at a predefined table
width with the columns at predefined widths, but I'm pretty sure those
measurements are hard-coded into the script that creates the XML file from
the Excel spreadsheet. It's doable if you know what sizes you're working
with
Thanks Jeff/Ken,
That helps,

Just for completeness, is the RGB vs CMYK problem only an issue using the PDF
creator that comes bundled with FM, or is it also an issue with the separate
Acrobat installation?
Thanks…

I have not seen any announcement on it - just realized it was there myself.
I'll install it and give it a try.

So far, it seems to be working. I updated a largish book with about 15 files
inside, and created a new PDF, etc., without issues.
But, I didn't check to see if the RGB/CMYK option selection issue during the
PDF output was fixed or not.

Hi,
last time I had a closer look I found that FrameMaker would only support
the CALS table model with fixed numeric column widths, not with
percentages.
Although it may be possible to set the widths via scripting, the result
will probably not be satisfying at the first attempt. (...
Hi Alison,
I am using it. I am not sure about how stability differs from previous
versions. FrameMaker 12 has been pretty stable for me all along.
