RE: global text box format

2015-02-17 Thread Rick Quatro
I haven't seen this one personally yet, or figured out how it gets
triggered. The fix for Debbie was fairly simple; she designated all of her
callout paragraph formats to straddle sideheads and columns, which
effectively masks the problem. Of course, a solution could be scripted if
necessary.

I haven't run into this recently (using FM11 and FM12 mostly) but know that
it was a bug that was NOT triggered by accidental keystrokes. The easiest
fix was to use the backup file. I can't remember if I could fix it by using
the template to reimport the master pages into the files affected. What was
happening was the sudden introduction of a sidehead that hadn't previously
existed onto the master pages (and resulting indenting of paragraph tags as
a result).

Re: global text box format

2015-02-16 Thread Carole McCormick
I've had this happen several times but have yet to figure out what causes
it - there is a FrameMaker command to turn side heads off (Esc j p
Shift+s) but you really have to work to apply that command!

The quickest way I found to fix the side head issue was to create an
object style with the side heads turned off, then apply that style to each
text box. In FrameMaker 11, be sure that you don't have a text frame
selected and then click Graphics > Object Style Designer. When the Object
Style Designer dialog opens, click Dimensions in the list of properties.
If any of the text boxes on the Dimensions properties has a blue fill,
click each box to clear the fill - be sure none of the boxes are checked.
Specifically, ensure that the "Room for Side Heads" check box is cleared.

Enter a name for the object style and click Save.

Applying the object style is similar to applying font or paragraph styles.
Display the Object Style Catalog (Graphics > Object Style Catalog), then
select the text boxes you want to apply the style to and click the object
style name to apply. You can apply the style to multiple text boxes at
once.

Ok Guys, I am stumped.

I am working on a large parts list for a service manual. It contains
parts illustrations. Each illustration is in its own anchored frame. I was
making some edits within a frame and the whole document somehow got messed
up. I can see what has happened, but can't remedy it. Backup file is of no
use.

It appears that every text frame within and anchored frame now has room
for sideheads (1.5 in). It took me quite a while to figure this out. I now
know what is the problem but not how I did it or how to fix it globally.
Individually, I will have to click on every callout.

I must have hit something, but I just can't figure it out. Deadline is two
days from now, so help would really be appreciated. This is 78 parts
illustrations with 50 or so callouts on each..:-(

Thanks Debbi

Hi Debbie,

Do you have time for a quick web meeting so I can look at the document?
Let me know and I will send you a meeting link. Thanks.

Thanks. Figured out a work around with Rick. Have no idea how it happened,
but we can get passed the text frame problem by setting all callout
paragraph formats to cross over. I would love to know what I did J

Sometimes just talking these things through helps, even if you have been
working with the tool for 20+ years!

It sounds like something that can be easily done with a macro. I can't help
you with the details though. I haven't delved into Frame macros yet.
