I use the JK optical printer at LIFT in Toronto; they have a Regular 8 (as well as a super 8 and 16mm gate). Lucky. Most often to Vision3 50D. Sandy PS. Bit of a fan club here: it’s Karl that keeps it going. Cheers! Sandy McLennan Port Sydney, Ontario > On Apr 22, 2023, at 7:27 PM, Scott

Can you easily bump 8mm/super8 up to 16mm? --scott -- Frameworks mailing list Frameworks@film-gallery.org https://mail.film-gallery.org/mailman/listinfo/frameworks_film-gallery.org

Presstapes are terrible. Presstapes are the worst. But I got away with it and it didn't jump because I left enough frames! 8mm would be even worse since you lose so much with that tape... you might need more than 4 frames overlap to get a stable cut but I bet you could do it if you had to.

Yeah, optical printing is a route I also use often, and hell yea making magic Double 8mm and Reg8mm films in the JK and tape splicing . Can't wait to see your new films, Sandy, and hope to see you in Toronto next month! Scott - Presstape ain't what I would use. But, then again, I'm just here

Good on ya, mate. Perhaps not in the same boat, but I’ll be tape splicing some camera-original Double8mm and Regular8; not worried about seeing it when optically printing then contact printing from that. Visually part of the process. I didn’t realize splicing towards a release print is as

A-B rolling with a couple frames of overlap, you can get away with tape but there's always a little blur at the splice because the tape never goes over the sprockets in the printer perfectly. With a dissolve where there is a couple dozen frames of overlap I can't really tell the difference. I

Yes, for sure, AB rolling with cement is the traditional way. I don't work with cement. In AB rolling and in single-strand, my tape splices don't show up. Hence the note about being good at it and loving it. <3 --- anna kipervaser annakipervaser.com On Sat, Apr 22, 2023 at 5:09 PM Jeff Kreines

Anna: You’re cutting negative with tape splices? Single-strand (A-roll only)? Really?? Given the lower gamma of negative stocks a tape splice is more likely to show than on reversal stock. I’ve always cut my own A rolls. Always cement splices. I learned from the great Tom Palazzolo that

So I'm cutting negs to conform to workprints right now, for a couple films I'm working on and am being reminded, once again, how much I love it and how good I am at making clean tape splices. So... I thought I'd write a note here to say that I dunno who's doing their own neg cutting these days and
