stop doing this.

If the OMSA CD is bootable, boot it and do what Dell tells you. If it's
a CD full of Linux utilities, then you're going to need to install or
run Linux somehow before accomplishing that. Trying to do this on
FreeBSD is probably not worth your time.

Regarding DSET: same advice as above.

When you're finished dealing with all of this, I would highly recommend
taking the time to write a professional and concise letter to a
supervisor or manager at Dell, and express your displeasure with their
Linux-only tools. They should at least be providing ISO images you can
burn and boot directly to perform enclosure/controller testing.

But I also hope you've learned something from the experience. Before
you buy hardware, ensure that it's fully manageable under FreeBSD, or
that the vendor offers bootable CDs that can help you. Otherwise, if
they do not, you're essentially living dangerously.

 Yes.

You can use all four drives in your Vinum array. There used to be a
restriction that the root partition could not be part of the Vinum array,
but that's no longer the case, see the Vinum section of the handbook:
 http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/vinum-vinum.html

Computers don't like dirty power, that is power prone to what I think
experts call grey-outs. They don't like spikes either, momentary

You can get devices to protect against somne of these things.

My second suggestion is going to sound really weird.
My FreeBSD system disappears into the boonies when I have a screen saver
enabled. That is xscreevsaver. Given enough time, and enough core dumps.
it crashes my system as sure as eggs is eggs. I kind of proved this by
leaving the systen running for days with and without screen saver.
It boonied with the screen saver, it did not wihout.

A few questons. Power supply ? Do you have SCSI disks ? They eat
electricity like it is going out of fashion.

Heat, is the server overheating ?
If you have a modern BIOS it can tell you what the temperature is.
You need to watch what the CPU temp is, because the reaction to over
 heating is reboot.

 Good luck.

 and all services .
i am going to use debian for the o.s.

anyone has a similar setup and can throw some tips my way ?
currently i see only to options
1.setup cyrus pwcheck for both cyrus and postfix and use the passwd file
,
rsync both passwd files ( the samba server and the mail server )
  2.use ldap ?

I run several FreeBSD/IPF based firewalls. I would really like to get
some sort of basic visual representation as to what the firewall is
doing without actually logging in and tailing logs. My idea is to have
the HDD LED (red) light up when IPF blocks packets with an ipf block
rule and the power LED (green) light up when traffic is passed with an
  ipf pass rule.

You could have rules to send the packets to divert sockets (as is done
for NAT), and write a program to respond to them. See divert(4) and
 natd(8).

It would be easier to use the keyboard leds (KDSETLED ioctl) than the
disk and power leds, I think.

I am trying to modify my dhcpd.conf file but I can't find it anywhere. I
did
a search, find / -name dhcp.conf and it comes up blank. I am following
the
 instructions from

http://www.defcon1.org/html/Networking_Articles/Cat-5/Cross-Over/server-dhcp
/server-dhcp.html . I am using ver. FreeBSD 4.5. It is telling me to
install
the port but I have ADSL and am sure I am using the DHCP client.

Upgrading to latest stable ....

2002-07-18 Thread Moti Levy

You People ...

can you figure out a way to upgrade dist + kernel without rebooting ?

I had to ruin my perfect uptime :
[root@CyclopS:srcuptime
  8:13AM up 107 days, 15:21, 1 user, load averages: 0.00, 0.04, 0.21
just for that

now it has the same uptime as all the other windows machines :-)

you're not asking for much but you're asking for trouble
if you rely on
gui and not know the syntax ...
with that said you can use fwbuilder ( it's in the ports
) to configure
ipfilter policies with a gui interface .

We have looked at OpenWebmail and cannot seem to allow it to work
with multiple domains (hosting environment). Anyone with documentation
on how to, would be greatly appreciated.

We have looked at Uebimiau for the longest time try to solve a bug.
We have tried to contact the author several times without success.
Below is my original post, hopefully someone who is using it can offer
   some further insight.

   Found here: http://www.uebimiau.sili.com.br/

On a FreeBSD 4.6R server, when I send a message through the web
interface, the recipient will see the following in the header fields
  within their
(any) mail client software (note the comments after each line):

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] // which is right
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] @server.mydomain.com // which is NOT
right
CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] @server.mydomain.com // which is
again
  not right
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] // which is right

Any idea how can I stop the server from appending it's (or another)
mail
  server name
after the 'To:' field. I have tried tweaking the code with no positive
  results.

We have also tried relaying the mail through the server Webmail is
setup
  on,
right through sendmail, and two other FreeBSD servers running
Sendmail.

We have tried contacting the author several times, as well as the FAQ,
  site, etc.

   Appreciate any assistance. Thank you,

Can someone point to a good mail package to use with FreeBSD 4.5. I have
my
own domain and need some help. I want something simple to start with. I
also
would like to know what companies are using in general. Something free. I
will only need 1 or 2 e-mails. I am also using apache, not sure if that
 matters.

 Thanks, Grant Cooper
