I can't record conversations using my sound card. pcm is just not in the
set of sources.
Is this a bug or I miss somethig?
Audio device loaded with this message:

Trying to set pcm as recording device prints this:
$ mixer +rec pcm

I have the snd_hda driver which creates /dev/dsp0.0 and /dev/sndstat but

I know I need to change device hints etc. but I'm not sure to which ones.
/dev/sndstat attached with verbose level 3

My laptop has a built-in sound card which works fine, but I would also
like to be able to use a USB handset. I load the snd_uaudio driver
and plug in the handset, the /dev/audio1.x and /dev/dsp1.x devices
appear, but then what?
What do I do to get sound applications to use device 1 rather than

Don't know about the error.
But for getting the sound support, you can also
simply load the sound modules:

Probably you still need to make a kernel config file
and adddevice pcm to it and build a new kernel.
Make a copy of /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC in

Unless something has changed sound is not configured in the default
(generic) kernel. You can
ations exist in /usr/.../ports.

FreeBSD system.
Can anyone advise me if I will run into a case where on every reboot they
all get different pcmX devices? Or will they stay static?
We currently use systems with 6 - 8 PCI cards in them, but th
