java jre

2009-06-16 Thread Roy Stuivenberg
Hello,

I'm having a problem getting java to work on Firefox 2.

diablo-jre16 latest version is installed.
After about:plugins it doesn't show.
Manual says to enter this as root, and so I do that.
ln -s /usr/local/diablo-jre1.6.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so \
  /usr/local/lib/browser_plugins/
Then I get --> File exists !!
I'm running 7.2 stable gnome2

Anyone encountered this problem too?

Regards,

Roy.

java and javascript are completely unrelated(*) so updating Java is
unlikely to fix a problem if it's source is, as you think, javascript.

--Alex

(*) It is quite possible for java and javascript to interact, and this
has been an area of great inconsistency and numerous timing bugs in
many, many browsers over the years, but nothing you've said points to
java being used at all.

Firefox2 lets you disable java (as opposed to javascript) so you could
try that and see if that helps, but it seems like a shot in the dark
with too little info to me.

OK, it looks like it's a javascript issue. With JAVA loaded myspace works fine.
With javascript loaded firefox freezes.

I'm guessing this is myspace's issue.

Java JRE (latest) | Mozilla 2

2006-11-23 Thread probsd org
Hey group. I'm using the latest Firefox2 (non-linux) and have the latest
diablo-jre15 port installed. I'm finding that the plugin for firefox causes
firefox to freeze consistently. For example, when accessing myspace, as soon as
I click on Myspace's mail link firefox will freeze immediately everytime. When
I turn javascript off in firefox then all works fine (except to send mail in
myspace you have to have javascript enabled).

I tried the FreeBSDfoundations JRE package but it said it required a past
version javawrapper.

Is there a more stable version of JRE in ports thats more stable?

What can I do to make OpenOffice do the

Oh, and any idea why OpenOffice.org needs java/jre
to play the movies? I have mplayer etc. on my
system, but that is seemingly not good enough for
OpenOffice.

Thanks,
Rob.

openoffice install and java JRE on 4.10

2004-07-27 Thread Peter Ryan
Hi Jay,

I am quite confused about this diablo
jre install.

I just tried installing diablo jre 13
from the ports collection, but it tells
me to get the file manually from
freebsdfoundation. The file it wants
me to download is
diablo-latte-1.3.1-0.tar.bz2

I had already put a downloaded file into
the /usr/ports/distfile directory, but its
name was
diablo-jre-1.3.1.0.tgz

These files seem to have the same version
number, but i dont know how to use the one
I have.

Could I ask you - how did you install the
diablo-jre-1.3.1.0.tgz that you downloaded.
I mean, what command or whatever did you use ?

The same question applies to the OpenOffice 1.1.2
install you did after that.

These things dont seem to be in the ports
collection, and I dont know if they are
considered "packages" or something different.

Thanks for your patience - I am still struggling
to come to grips with this environment.

Re: openoffice install and java JRE on 4.10

2004-07-20 Thread Mark Jayson Alvarez
Peter,
JRE is the acronym for Java Runtime Environment.
Because java is an interpreted language, a java
program needs an interpreter to be able to translate a
java program into a machine readable form. Perhaps
some of the openoffice.org's functionality were
develop using java, maybe that's the reason why it
needs a Java Runtime Environment. If you need to know
more about Java, try visiting http://sun.java.com

Java has already been ported to FreeBSD. You can find
one here:
http://www.freebsdfoundation.org/DL/28994/DL

Download the one that looks like this:
diablo-jre-1.3.1.0.tgz

At this very moment while I'm sending this to you,
I'm still completing the download of
openoffice.org-1.1.2. I've already downloaded jre but
still haven't tried it yet.

Best of luck
-jay

openoffice install and java JRE on 4.10

2004-07-19 Thread Peter Ryan
HI,
I have trouble getting my openoffice installation to run
on fbsd 4.10. (subject of previous questions)

I just remembered that I installed it without the java JRE option,
because I didnt have the slightest idea where to get that
(or even what it is)

Can someone tell me where to get the java JRE necessary
for freeBSD to run openoffice ? (and even what it is
called)

Thanks
Peter
