Update of patch #1246 (project freeciv): Status:None = Ready For Test Planned Release: = 2.3.0 ___ Follow-up Comment #4: Patch for adding both nations. Some very minor stylistic changes to rulesets. Added the Viscount title to the Portuguese. [Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1246] Andorran and Occitan nations
Follow-up Comment #5, patch #1246 (project freeciv): Why is France a conflicting nation for the Occitans? Occitania is part of France now, but back when the Occitan territories were independent it wasn't, and there were actually wars between French and Occitans. Both the Occitans and Andorrans could be added as civil war nations for the Catalans. Perhaps it's better to change the ruler title for monarchy for the Andorrans to 'prince' or 'co-prince'. I'm OK with adding viscount to the Portuguese. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1246 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #1, patch #1247 (project freeciv): Took the libery of putting together another flag concept, again. A green leaf on a dark green field. Based on an OCAL clipart by Ivan Alvarado. Follow-up Comment #2, patch #1247 (project freeciv): Less complex designs generally do look better in those tiny pngs. [Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1246] Andorran and Occitan nations
Follow-up Comment #6, patch #1246 (project freeciv): It is like you say: the Occitans conflict with the French because Occitan territory is occupied by France in modern times. Our French city list includes Occitan cities. Same goes with f.e. the Burgundians and the French; Catalans and Galicians with the Spanish; Bavarians, Saxons, etc with the Germans... ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1246 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1246] Andorran and Occitan nations
Follow-up Comment #7, patch #1246 (project freeciv): I know that's the convention, but I don't think it makes much sense. I don't see a good reason why historical nations whose territory is currently occupied by another nation could not appear in game together with that nation. Especially if they did actually co-exist and fight each other it doesn't make much sense to me. As far as I can tell conflicts_with is intended to prevent (apart for nations with similar flags) nations of which it would be weird to see them together from appearing together in the game. But having French and Occitans battling each other is not weird at all (it did actually happen in real history), nor is having Catalans and Spanish fight each other, etc, but the game won't have it. If done consistently, the game would never see Americans to wage war on Native Americans (Iroquois, Sioux, etc.) or Chinese to invade Tibet. Preventing Romans and Italians from appearing together: Italians and Romans occupy roughly the same territory, but lived during different eras. Having Italians and Romans fight each other wouldn't make sense. The same goes for Aztecs and Mexicans, Persians and Iranians, etc. For the French it means that the Gauls and the Franks should be conflicting nations, but I don't agree that Burgundians and Occitans should. Perhaps the best example of why I think this doesn't make much sense is the Confederates. During the entirety of its existence the Confederacy coexisted and was at war with the United States, but nonetheless the Confederates will never appear together with the Americans in the game. You will have them battling all nations that are in the game except for the only one they did actually battle in real history. Also, the Wiki doesn't mention including nations that currently occupy a historical nation's territory as a ground for including them as a conflicting nation: This is optional and should only be used when necessary; reasons for conflicting nations could be either that they represent the same people in different eras (e.g., Roman and Italian), or that the two nations' flags are too similar (e.g., Russian and Serbian). ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1246 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1246] Andorran and Occitan nations
Follow-up Comment #8, patch #1246 (project freeciv): Another couple of thoughts in support of the current scheme: The French, Spanish, and German nations are fully based on modern-day countries, while f.e. the Occitans, Catalans etc are mainly historical realms and/or modern cultural-linguistic regions. It is an anachronism for the two kinds to appear alongside each other in a game. Perhaps we want to add Frankish and Castilian nations? There are more than a few cases where cities overlap. In the case the spelling of a city differs between the two - f.e. Gerona (Castilian Spanish) vs. Girona (Catalan) - both will appear in the game essentially creating duplicates. A nation conflict in Freeciv is not strictly 'enforced'. It only applies to random nation selection. You can always override it by manually picking nations for each player. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1246 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1250] Republic of Malta
Update of patch #1250 (project freeciv): Status:None = Need Info ___ Follow-up Comment #1: It's be nice if we could do the leaders in Maltese language rendering. =) Had a quick look at mt.wikipedia.org and found Napuljun for Napoleon and Vittorja for Victoria, for starters. BTW, Malta doesn't quite qualify for the Ancient and Medieval groups, if I understand their history correctly.
